LAHORE: In what can be termed as a significant development towards construction of the 122 megawatt (MW) Keyal Khwar Hydropower Project, the German Development Bank-KfW has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) for award of its civil works contract to a joint venture led by a Chinese firm Sinohydro.

Keyal Khwar Hydropower Project is located on a tributary of Indus River, in Dasu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The project is scheduled to be completed in four years. On completion, it will provide 426 million units of low-cost hydel electricity to the national grid.

It is pertinent to mention that KfW and European Investment Bank (EIB) are providing €97 million and €100 million respectively for construction of the hydropower project.

According to the plan, around 13,000MW hydel electricity would be added under a medium-term plan of five to seven years.

Interesting development. Nice to see Europeans banks investing despite knowing that their own companies are not primary contractors. They still get something out of development. Good for them and us.

BTW, could it be that they are financing important German machinery, turbines & generators? I think so.

Best of luck!!!

COmplete it very fast in order to get real benefit of project and reduce project cost.
