Islamabad: Describing itself as a "responsible nuclear state," Pakistan's new Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani on Friday said his government would maintain a minimum credible deterrence to ensure peace and stability in the region.
A strong and credible defence was the ultimate guarantee for peace, he told Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, who called on Gillani at the prime minister's secretariat in Islamabad and congratulated him on assuming office.

“Pakistan is a peaceful country and its defence policy is based on peaceful co-existence with its neighbours,” Gillani said.

As a responsible nuclear state, he said Pakistan believed in maintaining a minimum credible deterrence to ensure peace in the region.

The armed forces had an important responsibility to protect the security and territorial integrity of the country, he said.

Kayani informed the premier that the country's defence had been made "impregnable by adopting innovative training and through the induction of modern equipment."

Navy Chief Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir too called on Gillani.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army on Friday said it had recalled 72 senior officers, including six major generals and eight brigadiers, from civil departments.

The recall of army officers from the civil administration was part of Kayani's efforts to insulate the army from politics.

A statement issued by the army said the general headquarters would henceforth not entertain any request for retention or induction of army officers in any civil department.

The civil departments had been asked to finalise plans for the recall of army officers, junior commissioned officers and soldiers by March 20.

Nearly 2000 officers and retired military personal were working under Musharraf regime in civil administrative work, which is shameful the military has to be confined to their duties, Parvez Kayani has taken the right step and recalled the military personal, Musharraf many times said he was the only military uniformed man in the government he was not telling the truth to the country.
The military job is to obey the civilian master.

do i sense an inferiority complex here? this is exactly the type of stuff that makes a coup.

i'm a civilian, but i am ashamed of being one. i want to be on the front lines defending the motherland and i certainly do not want to be confined to political quarters where i would only be needed to run my mouth.

May Allah guide our troops and their hearts, that is my dua.

.
besides that, has anybody noticed that as soon as Gillani becomes PM he starts sucking up to army officials? you tell me who is the master?

That is a quote of Quid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Please do share it. The word "master" is insulting, imagine no military in Pakistan.. then answer who is going to be the master.

I did actually post the entire quote once on the forum I have to search through my posts again. However, I assure you the Quid was against any military interference in the civilian government.

I support no military interference with the civilian government. And that is being done by Sir Kayani. I assure you too.. Quaid never disrespected the army because he was a fan of it neither the late Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

Unfortunately I happen to be one of those Musharraf-derided 'Liberal Extremists' - which means that I believe, like Mr. M.A. Jinnah, in democracy, a free press, an independent judiciary, and equal rights for women and all minorities. These days it is pertinent to recall that on the actual day of Independence, Mr Jinnah told a complaining Army Officer - Colonel (later General) Akbar Khan, of subsequent Rawalpindi Conspiracy fame: "Never forget that you are the servants of the state. You do not make policy. It is we, the people’s representatives, who decide how the country is to be run. Your job is to only obey the decisions of your civilian masters."

ZAB created a new Pakistan after the seperation he made it stronger he gave us a Nuclear power, Aeronotics, Advance space program, hydro electricity he wanted this country to be a strong country, and he wanted the people know that they are the most important. Jinnah's sister Fatima met ZAB and she said he will become a great leader one day I read this and if you want a source I would need some time.
