The Chinese envoy said that being a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China had special responsibilities in connection with restoration of peace and stability in the region.

UPDATED: August 8, 2019 08:21 IST

China's Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing on Wednesday said that Jammu and Kashmir was an "internationally recognized disputed territory", and criticised the Indian government for unilaterally revoking its special status.

Yao, speaking to journalists, also stressed on the need for compliance with international laws and hoped that both Pakistan and India would "take a suitable decision for the betterment of the Kashmiri people", Ary News reported.

Yao said that de-escalating tension between Islamabad and New Delhi would be beneficial for the entire region.

He said that being a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China had special responsibilities in connection with restoration of peace and stability in the region.

The envoy was echoing what Beijing said on Tuesday.

China's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Tuesday voiced "serious concern" over the Kashmir situation and stressed that Kashmir is "a legacy of history between India and Pakistan". Beijing also said that New Delhi should avoid actions to "unilaterally change the status quo" of the state, and termed the decision to reorganise Ladakh as a union territory as "unacceptable".

In another development, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) had said the Indian government's revocation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir violates the rights of representation guaranteed to Kashmiri people under the Indian Constitution and in international law.

ICJ's Secretary-General Sam Zarifi, in a statement, said the Indian Judiciary should look closely at serious violations of proper legislative and constitutional processes.

Is there any Kashmiri territory that China claims but is in Indian control? Or did the Chinese manage to take all back in 1962?

Anything negative from China is welcome as it will gravitate majority of nations in our direction..

We have a mechanism with them for this. And also even they know that Aksai Chin is captured territory and therefore up for negotiation. Their main contention is with Arunachal Pradesh. So, not worried about them. Its relatively calm than our western borders.

. .
There is no way that Aksai Chin can be negotiable, South Tibet could be but that will cause great discontent of the Chinese public so even that is not liikely to be discussed.
You know that it was captured during 1962 wars. Its not a part of your territory. I always thought Arunachal Pradesh was negotiable and some land swappings could be done. You shouldnt have any claim to aksai chin. Anyway i think land swappings in the north and east should be the best way. And aksai chin is mostly inhabited by Bakarwals and Chinese military, less signifance. Maybe after Xi's visit in winter, we will see some progress.

It's our land always, we gave up almost all captured land to India after 1962 war, we won't do it next time.

See and decide for urself, aksai chin was captured in 1962 as far as i know. feel free to correct bcoz i am not 100% on it. But pretty sure about it. The people who live there are nomads called bakarwals who are from ladakh region.

Whatever the Chinese say on record, i am not interested in it one bit, i am more interested in what is brewing up behind the scenes between Pak and China on the issue. Regardless, this is our fight and we shouldn't be expecting much from anyone. Any positive gesture is always welcome from the Chinese but having said that, they wont be fighting this war for us. Period.

Aksai chin is geographically the most important location in that region, the only passage between Xinjiang and Tibet, and it's located very close to New Delhi, which makes the city even within China's cannon fire range.

Isn't Delhi 700+km from Aksai Chin? Or did you mean other city being in China's cannon fire range?

Are you trying to assert that for keeping a conflict or you even want to resolve the border. It seems like the former. Can you clarify your stand on whether it was historically indian or chinese and that it was captured in 1962. Clarify that. And whats the logic that its near New delhi. I though china wanted peace near its borders.
This map by the Britishers. Your own map that i posted above also clarifies your historical territory. Anyway the governments will decide and i want it to be resolved peacefully without any conflict. There doesnt need to be one.

Yea, i missed that too, even the southernmost part of aksai chin is nowhere close to New Delhi.

100% agreed. We should let the international community know, but don't expect anyone to take action. We wouldn't see anyone else taking action. This would be Pakistan's war, and Pakistan's alone.
