Indian officials said two children were among the wounded in the latest incidents of firing from Pakistan

Eight civilians have been injured after Pakistani troops fired guns and mortar shells at border posts in Indian-administered Kashmir, officials say.

Two children were among those wounded, a Border Security Force official said.

Pakistan said the ceasefire violations were "a matter of great concern", but they had no information or comment about the latest incident.

In recent months, India and Pakistan have accused each other of unprovoked firing along the disputed border.

India says there have been nearly 200 violations of the decade-long ceasefire agreement since the beginning of this year.

On Wednesday morning, India said a paramilitary soldier was killed and many others were injured in firing overnight.

Earlier this month, the Indian army said it had fought gun battles with "30 to 40 Pakistan-backed militants" who had tried to infiltrate into India.

Officials said the militants made several attempts to enter the Keran area and that at least eight of them died in clashes over the last two weeks.

Pakistan dismissed as "baseless" reports of infiltration from its soil.
Volatile border

"In the overnight firing from across the border eight civilians, including two children, have been injured in the general area of Kanachak near the international border in the Jammu region," senior BSF official Darmindar Parrikh told the BBC.

Officials accused Pakistani troops of shelling 17 border posts and hamlets in Jammu and Samba districts overnight.

They said India responded and the exchanges continued until early Friday morning.

The injured have been admitted to hospital in Jammu.

India says there have been nearly 200 violations of the ceasefire agreement since the beginning of this year.

On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the injured in the hospital.

Reports say hundreds of villagers have fled their homes in border areas in recent days due to repeated firing from Pakistan.

In Islamabad, foreign ministry spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said he had no information or comment on the latest exchange of firing, but added that Pakistani troops did not fire indiscriminately and emphasised that Pakistan has no interest in creating problems along the border, reports Associated Press.

"Our troops have a policy. We will not indulge in firing first. But if we are fired upon we will give a responsible and effective response," he added.

The increased volatility along the border comes 10 years after the two countries agreed a ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border that divides Kashmir between them.

In September, the prime ministers of the two countries met in New York and agreed to maintain peace on the border, but correspondents say their pledge seems to have made little difference on the ground.

Earlier this week, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed to go the "extra mile" to make peace with India, saying while on a trip to the US that the two countries can resolve all issues including Kashmir through dialogue.

These are all infiltration bids to sneak terrorists before winter snow sets in making it imossible

Despo move to infiltrate terrorists. Anyway as I say no matter what but Kashmir issue is a dead issue internationally and will see no revive again.

It seems like both sides exchange fire and people die. But there is no gain to be had.

I actually wonder what happens to those families who lose loved ones in situations like this. it seems we get angry once and then move on

Toothless Pathetic and helpless indian govt. again prove their mettle. If it was any other country the wrath would have been unforeseen. Talk the talk but can't walk .......

LOL. What good is the Indian Army if it cannot prevent pakistanis from killing Indians ?

What good is the govt. of India if it cannot protect Indians from its enemies ?

Dear army is ready to retaliate with their limited resource and rusted cannons. It's the government who thinks it's their duty to die while they have less than ordinary stance for response

Cant blame the pakistanis for killing us with such regularity when we our self put so little value to the lives of Indians killed by pakistanis. (via terrorism or army shelling)

There is thing called counter attack all those canons on verge of death with limited shelf like and mini missiles. They can respond by accurate strikes. Without getting civilian involved. I don't believe in killing public who got no clue for this bombardment so may be keep town and villages out. Even paks would like to keep poor villagers out of this political gimmick of a war.

Now no Pakistanis will comment in this thread.

Indian blood is treated cheaper than sea water. Indians are so scared. They didn't do anything when PLA soldiers entered India back in April. Any other country would have fired but Indians are petrified of getting smacked by the PLA again.

I agree with this quote so much so true, Destro. I mean Chinese men in real life are actually gutless wimps with no spine. That is why you see Chinese women going with westerners, the sort of westerners who are considered themselves to be wimps and losers in their own country. I mean, how can you blame those western Men, Chinese women fantasise about white men and desperately want to be white. Chinese men too want to be with white women, but they lack self esteem because they are such weaklings.

And I am surprised at you writing english so fluently, because when Chinese speak English it usually sounds like two cats having sex.

Well, after that you eat them of course.

Its sad that these civilians are injured. Ultimately, I would still put the fault at India as India continue to illegally occupy Kashmir. India need to end its imperialistic occupation of Kashmir.

China needs to end its imperialistic occupation of Tibet.
