KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have killed Karachi commander of al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) and three of his associates in an encounter.

The raid was carried out by Crime Investigation Department’s counter-terrorism unit in Qayumabad. The commander was identified as Sajad alias Kargil, while his accomplices identified as Muhammad Hashim, Yasin alias Yasir Arafat and Shamim alias Commando. Weapons, ammunition, a suicide jacket and a hand grenade were also seized from their possession.

Police claimed the militants had planned to attack the vehicle of an intelligence officer on Friday morning.

The AQIS Karachi commander reportedly arrived in Pakistan from Bangladesh in 2009, acquired a national identity card through an agent and moved to Waziristan. He was appointed as the city commander in 2014 after taking oath before AQIS chief Asim Umer.

Sajad was believed to be an expert on assembling suicide vests and bombs and had been involved in target killings of police officials.

Good news

Correct me if I'm wrong but was this guy Bengali? See this is where I don't get the self righteous brigade who harp on about Pakistani sovereignty being comprised by being allied to the U.S. Do they turn a blind eye to the fact that we have terrorist tourists ranging from Chechens, Russians, Arabs, English, French, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Chinese etc. Do the presence of these people not violate our sovereignty?

Kargil is his Alias, Taliban and AQN did not participate in Kargil war, that was the Pakistan Army. Taliban do not have the equipment or training to operate at that height in a prolonged conflict.

I just wonder which countries fall under aqis?
Writer failed to mention ' India' connection as its in title.

I have to give to Karachi's Police, there are some honest and hard working cops who have caught many terrorists and foiled many terrorist attacks in Karachi.

is that in Korangi?

KPT Flyover on korangi road (Map)
