Kalabagh dam declared lifeline for future

If Musharraf would have done it in the early years of him taking over the government, only than it would had been possible. Democracy is not for us, a nation who does not even know the meaning of shaheeds and morn every traitor, sharabi as their shaheeds and quaids.

I'll agree if the electricity is given solely to KPK and Punjab gets half of allocated water....... Punjab has enjoyed a lot on other provinces cost................. We don't want to add another "Metro" to Lahore, while our cities go without electricity........... enough of Punjabi gunda-raj........... our cities, our water, our way or no way! :D

Oh please Punjab is the one because of which the other Provinces have thrived....we're the hand that gives...not the one that takes ! :bunny:

I think we may have to accept the fact that KBD will never be built. Blame waderas/politicians etc whoever you want. But there is just too much opposition to it.

Screw Kalabagh and let the Sindhis get Flooded each year and lose their possessions. You can't help people who don't want to be helped.

Land is sacred for pashtuns, it is a known fact. Only danda and state's power would force them to leave their lands, to be submerged and salinated.
Kalabagh is not harmful for all pashtuns, southren districts of KPK, the dry ones, would get benefit from dam. Punjab should try "divide and rule" formula on KPK.
The pashtuns of peshawer valley, where 40% population of kpk reside, would get adversely affected by it. A friend of mine says that if pathans of pekhawer valley are patriotic and loyal to pakistan, they have to give sacrifice of their fertile lands for greater good. Khud qurbani ka bakra nahi banay ga.

What about 800.000 acres of land which will be irrigated in KPK thanks to Kalabagh dam?

They problem is Sindhi don't need hallow water and Punjab enjoy both water and electricity royalty...
Punjab saying no Kalabagh no Dams...

This dam will never be made and this type of conference not help the cause but make it more Punjabi concerns that only we know what is good for Pakistan...

Forget Kalabagh or suffer more..

And so what? KPK get royality from Tarbela and soon to be build Dasu dam. And for your information royalities are only few billions rupees to provinces. Overall benefits are in hundreds of billions every year which enjoy everyone in Pakistan.

Hamesha choti sochna, isi liye Pakistan ka yeh haal hai. The water problem will only get worse if dams with storage are not build. For exemple Dasu dam will only generate electricity unlike Kalabagh dam.

Read my post again, i already said that kalabagh dam is beneficial to southren districts of KPK.

It all depends if positives outweigh negatives.

Punjab is greedy for water otherwise there are hundreds of sites in KPK and FATA where dams can be built, would easily fullfill the electricity requirements for whole country.

BS, 35MAF water is wasted in sea. Kalabagh capacity will be only 5 MAF in comparision. And these sites in KPK/FATA are useless for water storage. Tarbela is already build and its losing storage capacity slowly. Bhasha dam and Kalabagh dam are very important for everyone in Pakistan.

The biggest obstruction to the building of KBD is political mafia at provinicial level, which are quite powerful and can only be removed when first the country is further divided into smaller provinces, breaking their power to obstruct the projects which are beneficial to the nation as a whole.

Countless studies indicate that most of the fears are not well founded at all, in fact they are downright wrong.

There are though, some alternatives:

1. Brick-line the waterways of the country - about 1 million mile of them - this will save the same amount of water as from KBD. This is an ongoing process; could be prioritised.

2. Construction of smaller dams which would gradually increase the water storage and electricity generation capacity. Advantage of these would be: Easy to finance because of much smaller amount of capital required; quick construction times; a gradual build-up of capacity; time to study the side-effects of new structures and take precautionary steps to alleviated the negative ones. Easy dredging to remove the accumulated silt, etc. Luckily, govt. of KPK is already on this track which is commendable.

3. Construction of more smaller but numerous water storage structures which could store water further downstream. Once, the brick-lining is completed, there will definitely more amount of water to store. Such structures could also accomodate the flood waters.
