Dhaka, Jan 9 (bdnews24.com) – A Jahangirnagar University student died early on Monday following a beating allegedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists.

Police have arrested a member of BCL, ruling Awami League's student wing, over the incident.

Jubair Ahmed, an honours final year student of English Department, died at the United Hospital in the city at 5am.

The hospital's emergency ward physician Dr Samira told bdnews24.com that the death occurred because he bled excessively.
"We gave him 10 bags of blood in the night. It didn't work," she said.

Witnesses said Jubair, a resident student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, had gone to the campus to take part in honours final examination on Sunday.

BCL JU unit activists had called him to Shahid Rafiq-Jabbar Hall and beat him up in the evening, they said.

He was taken to Savar's Enam Medical College Hospital with severe injuries.

Doctor 'Sohel' told bdnews24.com that he had been wounded by sharp weapons and his two legs and right hand had been broken.
"He was bleeding too much," he had said.

Jubair was shifted to the United Hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Savar police chief Asaduzzaman said they arrested Ashiqur Rahman, a 37th batch student of zoology, from Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall around 8am.

"Additional police have been deployed on the campus," he said.

Sheikh Mohammad Sharif, a leader of a BCL faction that is believed to be of vice chancellor's followers, said, "I've heard the matter. But I can't say who are involved with this."

A BCL member, requesting anonymity, told bdnews24.com that Jubair was a follower of Rashedul Islam Shafin, former president of JU BCL unit.

Jubair left politics after Shafin was expelled from the organisation nearly a year ago, he said.

"He used to attend classes and examinations from Dhaka," he added.

The BCL activist said there had been a dispute between Shafin and the 'VC Group', led by Sharif and S M Shamim.

Those BCLs have gone crazy.

The ones who terrorize students and women should be treated as terrorists

Now they've started to kill themselves up. Would have been
great if the trend continues and they all self-destruct to oblivion.

His body was taken to Dhaka Medical Morgue.... Saw many students there. Some girls were crying.... Politics in JU is very dangerous.... Different groups control different halls.... And you can't remain neutral. You stay in a hall means you are follower of that group which controls that hall... Sick.

Terrorist BCL have all the state apparatus under their control and now they are fighting for their
digital powers. IF Chatra dal & SHIBIR were even 1% aggressive as these terrorist BCL then
AL wouldn't have ever seen the light of day. BUT then again I favour a polite CHatra dal & shibir
since this is how democracy should work and the people should kick out the awami goons from
power via the ballot.

Shibir already demand ban on dorson(rap) league . it should now be a national demand to ban chatra league activities in Bangladesh.

due to this politics Mumbai University stopped student elections...every college used to become heated place during these elections...

Somethings don't change. I doubt the deceased was an outstanding citizen of Bangladesh.

Anyway RIP.

Student politics in Bangladesh is all about getting tenders within the university. its all about looting at the end of the day. The student leaders make sure they get their cuts from every kind of work that are done withing the University.

It is clear that more Bangladeshis have been harmed by BAL directly than by any so-called "terrorists" blacklisted by USA and then banned by BAL under orders from their masters.

Student politics needs to be banned. Too bad these organizations are too powerful to be banned like this. Only way these can be stopped is if their parent parties expire as in AL, BNP and Jamaat.
