It is water. That aside, if you are not happy with him as one of the regional leaders, it's kind of pointless to be honest. Jordan can't be that influential of a nation, but for what it is working they are offering a good education and somewhat decent quality of life and great security for his their people. Which is really what the Jordanian people care about. And you can't blame them, each peoples has to look after themselves.
The days of pan-Islamic reality were indeed beautiful and unique era's. It didn't last much long after the Prophet's(SAW) death. The Prophet(SAW) managed to change some peoples perspective on life away from the norm, which is very difficult to achieve and rarely occurs. It is intended to be that way by Allah(SWT) for various reasons, some we know and some we don't. It will come back and start again:
رواه مسلم في صحيحه، عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال: ((بدأ الإسلام غريباً، وسيعود غريباً كما بدأ، فطوبى للغرباء)
وعن أبي سعيد الخدري رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " يصيب الناس بلاءً شديدٌ حتى لا يجد الرجل ملجأً، فيبعث الله من عترتي أهل بيتي رجلاً، يملأ الأرض قسطاً وعدلاً، كما ملئت جوراً وظلماً، يحبه ساكن السماء وساكن الأرض، وترسل السماء قطرها، وتخرج الأرض نباتها لا تمسك منه شيئاً، يعيش في ذلك سبع سنين " .
وعن قيس بن جابر الصدفي، عن أبيه، عن جده، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " سيكون بعدي خلفاءُ، ومن بعد الخفاء أمراء، ومن بعد الأمراء ملوك جبابرة، ثم يخرج المهدي من أهل بيتي يملأ الأرض عدلاً كما ملئت جوراً، ثم يؤمر القحطاني فوالذي بعثني بالحق ما هو دونه " .
وعن أبي جعفر محمد بن علي الباقر، عليهما السلام، قال: سئل أمير المؤمنين علي عليه السلام، عن صفة المهدي، فقال هو شاب مربوع، حسن الوجه، يسيل شعره على منكبيه، يعلو نور وجهه سواد شعره ولحيته ورأسه.
وعن الحارث بن المغيرة النضري قال: قلت لأبي عبد الله الحسين بن علي عليه السلام بأي شيء يعرف الإمام المهدي؟ قال: بالسكينة والوقار قلت: وبأي شيء؟ قال: بمعرفة الحلال والحرام، وبحاجة الناس إليه، ولا يحتاج إلى أحد.
وعن أبي عبد الله الحسين بن علي، عليهما السلام، نه قال: لو قام المهدي لأنكره الناس؛ لأنه يرجع إليهم شاباً موفقاً، وإن من أعظم البلية أن يخرج إليهم صاحبهم شاباً، وهم يحسبونه شيخاً كبيراً.
وعن أبي جعفر الباقر عليه السلام أنه قال: يكون هذا الأمر في أصغرنا سناً، وأجملنا ذكراً، ويورثه الله علماً ولا يكله إلى نفسه.
