I think JF-17 sale to Malaysia is a done deal. Let’s hope it becomes official and contract is signed. Maybe Pakistan is working on Medium weight JF-18 and want Malaysia as a partner in the project.

More likely Joining T-FX to stay independent of Regional powers like China in the long run. JF-17 may be a good Workhorse fighter for local defense, but a twin engine long range fighter that can deal with future threats and future diplomatic events which might happen

In EW role, JF-17 would need 2-3 different pods: EW/EA pod then high/Lo Band.
For self defense on any mission, a self protection jammer pod and a towed decoy, two hard points taken away. 5 left. Inbuilt pods are required, especially if its targeting/FLIR pod

That is possible. I dont know how much can JF-17 be modified in air frame to accommodate all these

I think pod is a better option as u can use them as per missiom requirements. For example, you can equip jamming pods on one aircrafts as per the requirement. Targetting pods and air to surface missiles on 2 aircrafts and the remaining aircrafts with weapons to escort.

This will allow much effecient use of limited weight carrying capability of a planned attack

USA has a big airforce and can have dedicated role platforms. We are a small airforce and we need multirole platform.

Advantages of dedicated role. Availability very high and maintenance comparatively low. Disadvantages, you need to keep a much larger fleet.

That’s true as well and I agree with you. But on the other end we can’t stay as a 400 AC Air Force forever and need to expand fleet size to face the coming threats. We have our own fighter and need to start bolstering our numbers and possibly even have China start production to ramp up which would help keep costs low as well.

We don't have economy big enough even to support 400 aircraft. Our fleet is bigger than European countries
