So it looks like soon two squadrons will be doing Naval Role. One would do the role all the time but this squadron would do both I mean against Enemy fighter Jets as well as Anti Ship roles.

Is it Nishan e Haider painter on tail in second pic? o_O

KARACHI: The JF-17 Thunder has been formally inducted in the prestigious No 2 Multirole Squadron of Pakistan Air Force. To mark the historic event, a ceremony was held at the PAF Base, Masroor, Karachi.

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was the chief guest on the occasion, while Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, was also present.

Challenges on the horizon: PAF wants fleet upgrade for prolonged militant fight

The air chief said that since its inception No 2 squadron has had commendable achievements to its credit. He paid tribute to Shuhada, veterans and predecessors of No 2 Squadron who displayed exceptional professionalism and valour.

“JF-17 Thunder is the pride of the PAF and the nation of Pakistan. It is proof of our abilities and a testament to our dedication and evidence of smooth progress on the road of indigenisation,” the air chief added.

The tail number is 13-144... This indicates that the aircraft is manufactured in 2013. If it is so then this is block 1

I really like that tail-sign Nishan-e-Haider. There wouldn't be a more suitable way to describe this squadron's name. A whole new capability (Maritime Strike) has been added to the squadron's operational profile. Though, I wonder if PN will ever raise its own dedicated squadrons in order to aid PN surface fleet and seawards defense.

And when the enemy shoots that plane down---it is shooting down the Nishan a Haider---.

By that logic whenever an enemy shoots down a plane with the national flag on the tail, they shoot down the country.

Hi,

No---that is wrong logic----. A flag is a national symbol---but Nishan A Haider is---a symbol of utmost bravery and desecrating that ultimate sign of valor---there is no reason to do that.

Off topic but I really like the full dress uniform of PAF. Very classy, much more professional looking than the USAF three button "country club blazer".

Is there a single Nishan e Haider recipient who wasn't 'shot down' in the line of duty?
