What's new

JF-17 Block III's proposed AESA Radar KLJ-7A

So just to get the facts right
lkf 601E is the aesa tht replaces the mechanical KLJ 7 v1/2 radar in block 1 and 2 respectively...
And
Klj7A aesa is for block 3...
Now where would you put the so called high end radar???
J-31 (speculated Azm) radar is also KLJ-7A, high end variant matches its nose shape.
Mechanical steared array is enough, same mechanical + electronic staring used in Grippen NG for high angle of coverage.

.
Eurofighter is to use a swashplate in CAESAR

Gripen E uses Raven E swashplate

Rafale uses RBE-2 AESA with a swashplate

Some of the top fighters out there use it for it offers additional frontal coverage which is not always the case with a fixed antenna.

What's the difference between 2 then? Both has same ranges as per online available sources.

If you have time can you please write down the main points from the interview?

Thanks

1. PAF is likely be intrested in upgrading their ZDK-03 with the "silu eye" AESE radar system that showed on 25:50.
2.Both 2 version KJL7a could be equiped to JF17,but finally the cheaper one was chosen by PAF and the testing in JF17 is almost done, everything go well&there's no big problem in the test.

@Dazzler PAF bought the cheaper version :(

This is indeed an excellent news for PAF JFT's. Now our block I and II radar's performance also elevated. Now block I and II (after upgradation) can also see SU-30 from far ranges. Hopefully PL-15 will also be integrated with them.

KLJ-7A swashplate has several improvements in all areas, including search and target detection range. It is a more powerful radar of the two.
Isn't someone saying that KLJ-7A is still a candidate for BLOCK-3 or LKF-601E will be used for them also

Which radar will be used in block 1,2,3?

Klj7 a or the other one displayed in the exhibition

Nothing has been confirmed on PAF selecting either one, would prefer a more offical source of information

Given the rate at which Chinese technology is advancing, why not get the cheaper version for a batch of JF17s and then see what Zuhai 2019 turns up?? Who knew that there would be 2 radars competing for the JF17 contract. The only difference between the expensive and cheap version is the side mounted Transmit/Receive Nodes. Neither the "cheap" or "expensive" versions offer a swash plate!! If they had, then which ever one did, would be worth going for.

It is the unknowns that let one to strive for upgradation and improvements. The entire cold war era is a testament to that.

If the cold war is testament to anything, its the perpetual advancement of technology due to human enterprise. Which is why the cold war was won through cold deceit not hot action.

The radar used in block 1 & 2 are
KLJ-7v2 (and probably klj-7v1 in early version of Jf-17)
JF-17 Block3 - KLJ-7A(Aesa Radar) Planned
New AESA Radar(LKF601E) is a potential upgrade package for Jf-17 block 1 & 2.
