What's new

Japan's Growing Naval Power: Japan building more Atago Class GM Destroyers

even they can't build diesel engine for their newly Type 056 corvette (they are using 2 x S.E.M.T.Pielstick 16PA6STC) and imported them from France let alone to build gas turbine engine

For the sake of the common sense, China produce the nuclear reactor for its SSBN/SSN, China can produce the large turbofan engine for its aircraft, China can produce the cryogenic engine for its heavy rocket.

China even produces the scramjet engine for its hypersonic glide vehicle.

Yet you believe that we cannot build the low-end tech such as the diesel engine?

Do you srsly want me to post that entire Destroyer article again
@gslv mk3,kindly tell our Chinese friend how much Home made their ships are

Go ahead, those anti-China tabloids won't make any difference.

Compare to China, your country still sucks.

I didn't even compared my country to yours, you were discussing something with a Indonesian & you dragged my country in it @Star Wars i think you have the link for that whole Article

I wanna quit the discussion, and how many of you wanna keep getting me off-topic?

Just open another topic, and let's leave this thread alone.

You are telling us we cannot build a corvette diesel engine but we can for 052D? Are you stupid? You HAVE AND MUST use your brain to understand that any military deal involve with France or Germany could simply be "economic sense". Who know? Perhap France seeking deal to balance out the trade and we need a large supply as our domestic can't keep up with the huge demand.

cnleio make this post in annother thread and I do not want to hear a single word from you again talking about "gas turbine engine".

:coffee: Yes we can !

LOL ... @madokafc, pls let me correct some wrong idea here. :coffee:

1. China Navy's diesel engine:
Yes Chinese imported diesel engine tech from France SEMT Pielstick 16PA6V-280, just Chinese can domesticly produce it in China SXD Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.

The China SXD imported SEMT Pielstick 16PA6V-280 diesel engine techs, max 6,480KW. 4x for PLAN 054A FFG and 2x for 056 corvette.

Right now China built 24x type054/A FFGs and 20x type 056 corvettes (Wiki) for PLAN. Of course Chinese can build successful diesel engines, although we also own SEMT Pielstick's techs.

2. China Navy's gas turbine:
We all know that, Chinese gas turbine techs started from Ukraine. Just during 20years development, Chinese can produce many types of domestic gas turbine in China. And that 30MW QC280 for 052C/D DDGs mass production. @xunzi had provided all pics on above.

So please tell us who supplied the engine for the 8000 tonne Type-052D destroyer.

Many of the below deck systems are less certain. The combined diesel and generator (CODAG) propulsion on the 052D is the QC-280 Chinese copy of Ukraine Zorya-Mashproekt UGT 15000, also designated DN/80 gas turbine propulsion. Xian Aero Engine (XAE) manufactured the QC-280 under license from Ukraine in 1990 when eight were imported as the QD-80 for two Luhu ships. The XAE-built prototype with 28 megawatts of power was installed on the 052B Wuhan hull 169 in 2009, which made a Somali TG9 deployment in 2011. CNET 5 with DDG 168 left Hainan for the Gulf of Aden from March to July 2010, but it was not believed to have been modernized with the QC-280. The 052D reportedly has two diesel engines each providing six megawatts of power. All 052B/C Luyang DDGs and the 052D have license-produced MTU 20V 956TB92 diesel engines by Shaanxi Diesel Work rated at 4.9 megawatts of power. - See more at: China Destroyer Consolidates Innovations, Other Ship Advances | SIGNAL Magazine

Canada’s Kanwa Defence Review published an article on January 25 on China’s development and production of QC280 gas turbines for its Type 052D destroyers.
According to the article, China developed QC280 generates 28MW of power, on the basis of the technology of DA80/GT25000 gas turbine imported from Ukraine but has made a series of improvements on it.
Kanwa visited Ukraine’s Zorya JSC several times and learned from the company that it had to provide China parts and components for QC280. When China assembled and put into operation the engines, it had to provide lots of information and advices. Sometimes, it was requested to send experts to China.
QD280 consumes less fuel, has greater power than DA80 due to the improvements.
On the basis of the development of QC280, China is now developing R0110 heavy gas turbine with power output of 114,500kw and heat efficiency of 36%. The turbine has passed expert evaluation and will be used on China’s homegrown aircraft carrier.

@madokafc Let's back to Japan Atago-class DDG power system...

The Atago DDG using (Wiki) 4x Ishikawajima Harima/General Electric LM2500-30gas turbines, Two shafts 5-bladed CP props, total 100,000 shaft horsepower (75 MW).

Here's a 2011 China news, it's very interesting !

2011 GE & China ShangHai HuaDian Heavy Industries Co., Ltd produce LM2500+G4、LM6000PD gas turbine
中国引进LM2500燃气轮机 促进大型战舰制造
凤凰:中国引进LM2500燃气轮机 原型为西方海军标准动力

华电与GE合资生产LM2500航改型燃气轮机

Well it's not suprise, when i tell u Chinese also can produce LM2500 gas turbine in ShangHai and U.S GE sell LM2500 core techs to Chinese in 2011.:D

Kanwa is the synonym of unreliable.

BTW, stick on the topic, it is about the JMSDF, not the PLAN.

If you wanna discuss about the PLAN, then go back to the Chinese section.

Agree, we should stick on JMSDF's new Atago-class DDG not Chinese diesel engine or gas turbine (i proved by pics) ...
@Nihonjin1051 if im right, the pic showed on 1st post ... it's a Kongō-class destroyer,not the Atago.

The Atago has 1x helo hangar ... but Kongō not.

@Nihonjin1051 how many destroyers will JSDF operate after 2020s ?

Currently, we have 26 destroyers , 11 light destroyers, 6 destroyer escorts, some 16 attack submarines, 30 mine countermeasure vessels, various patrol vessels, numerous "training vessels" (which are actually light destroyers), our auxiliary fleet. Currently we are building 2 more Atago Class AEGIS Destroyers , and preparing to build 4 more Akizuki Class Destroyers.

By 2020, our Destroyer Force should be at 32, supported by 11 light destroyers and 6 destroyer escorts. We are currently building 6 more Soryu Class Subs, so our total Attack Sub Force will be up to 22 by 2020-2025. :)

We will also have 6 Light Aircraft Carriers. :)

That is right, the picture in the first post is actually the JS Myoko , of the Kongo Class Destroyer of JMSDF. Its being upgraded with SM3 Block IIas, as all ships of the Kongo class are being upgraded with those.
