Japanese ships with training squadron of Japan Maritime Self-defence (JMSDF) will arrive at Chittagong Port on September 24 as a goodwill visit to Bangladesh.

Japanese Embassy in Dhaka said this is the first ever visit of JMSDF's ships to Bangladesh since independence which has been organised in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The embassy official said 750 officers and crew including 200 newly commissioned officers of JMSDF will stay until September 27 and participate in various interaction programmes with their Bangladesh counterparts.

A press release of the embassy said Commander Rear Admiral Hidetoshi Fuchinoue and his officers will be received by Bangladesh Navy at a ceremony at the port authority jetty. Japanese Ambassador in Bangladesh Shiro Sadoshima will be present at the ceremony.

The purpose of the visit is to develop seamanship of the newly commissioned officers of the JMSDF and also promote mutual understanding and goodwill with the countries they will visit.

The Training Squadron will visit 14 countries as part of its five-month training period.

The Training Squadron was composed of JS KASHIMA, JS SHIMAYUKI and JS MATSUYUKI.
