Japan wants to recruit caregivers and nurses from Bangladesh, said an official of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET).

Bangladesh embassy in Japan sent letters to the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry and BMET informing them of the opportunities created for Bangladeshis in Japan’s job market, the official said.

Japan reportedly has the highest life expectancy in the world, with a baby girl expected to live up to 86 years of age and a boy up to nearly 80, according to a 2011 study. Its level of expectancy has risen in recent times thanks to general diet awareness and public health measures.

In this regard, the official said more old people in Japan are in need of paid caregivers than before, with the average age of the Japanese rising. Bangladesh can take this opportunity and send trained helpers there.

Currently, Japan recruits caregivers and nurses from Philippines and Indonesia under the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA).

BMET Director Nurul Islam said there is a good potential for Bangladeshis in Japan’s booming caregiving industry.

“We sent a letter to our embassy in Japan two weeks ago in this regard. We requested our officials to hold meetings with the respective departments of Japan and inform us about what steps we should take to send caregivers,” he told the Dhaka Tribune over phone on Thursday.

Those who are interested to work as caregivers have to have training and fluency in Japanese. If Bangladeshis perform better, opportunities will likely increase, he said.

A caregiver would get a monthly salary of over Tk100,000, he added.

Well, Bangladeshis are already well respected in the country as they are very hard working, and very respectful. They integrate very well into Japanese society, btw.

With professionals from Bangladesh being great drivers , we should consider bringing in more and more Bangladeshi professionals to Japan. Even allow a platform for immigrants to bring their family members --- as a way to encourage permanent settlement in Japan.

Good move by Japan, Bangladeshi women take their work very seriously which have already been shown in the case of Grameen bank, not to forget Bangladesh is leading in the women empowerment department in South Asia.

Its been a while, how are you Nihonjin?

Excellent decision by Japanese govt. We appreciate Japan's generosity. Currently Korea has a language training requirement for workers interested to work in that country. Workers have to pass language proficiency test. It would be good to have a similar Japanese language training program in major cities in nursing colleges or nearby colleges and universities.

There is currently quite a bit of work going on to expand nursing education in Bangladesh and taking it up to international standard. Japanese govt. can help by providing some accredition for select nurse training colleges/universities.

Improved nursing education and language proficiency will create a better work force who will be able to perform well in their work place in Japan.

Ha ha ha. You know one of our famous stars in Japan is half Bangladeshi, half Japanese? ;)

Talk about fusion of Japan and Bangladesh, eh? ;)

Rola's half Bangladeshi alright, but not half Japanese. Her mother's half Japanese and half Russian, so she's 25% Japanese. So... talk about fusion of Japan, Russia and Bangladesh. ;)

Nursing a noble profession in white man land, having a respectable salary will soon be relegated to a low pay job.

After a while your nurse salary will go to the level of Bangladesh and no smart people will go nursing school slugging 4 years, taking up debt and earning a useless degree.

This is happening in Singapore.

To get people to be nurse, just raise their salary. No such thing as cant find Japanese nurse.

????

You understand that as a board certified Nurse Practitioner (family nurse practitioner/ psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner / critical care nurse practitioner) you can make anywhere from $80,000 to $130,000 USD a year right? These are advanced practice nursing roles and require a masters or doctorate in nursing degree. But NPs in Japan make as much as physicians.

Definitely more than the average wage there in Singapore....!

Even a nurse with BSN degree and straight out of college will take home around $4,000 USD a month. So it's not bad at all. For foreign nurses working in Japan .... that's a lot of money for them, and it helps because they usually send back to their family back in their home countries. Win win situation.
