the nice guy is not wrong about what he said about japan. japan is barren land with very little arable land, not mentioning earthquakes, volcanos etc. vietnam on the other hand has a lot of arable land. also the japanese was known as pirates. they stole and raid others for goods, also they even kidnap people from coastal china and korea.

also japan got rich off the cold war, by being a client state of the us. they profited handsomely from the korean war and vietnam war. another factor is that the japanese during the cold war were hardworking and persistant.
