I thought it was a parallel statement: end of summer solstice, and the end of Shinto-ism. Disappointed.

Cool until third photo. Then not cool! You should to warn viewer discretion is advised.

Don't you guys have purification rituals in China? I hear the Taoists have something similar to this...

can u give me some explanation about what they are doing ? :D

These are Shinto devotees, and they are being led by a Shinto priest. They are performing an ancient ritual, which occurs during the solstice at end of summer. They are showing their salutation to the Rising Sun, which in Shinto religion, is the Sun goddess , Omi Kami Amaterasu.

How will communists know about purification rituals. :sarcastic:

I guess you have a point. I think there is something similar to this in Hinduism right? I believe in the morning Brahmin priests salute the sun in a ritual? Well, I remember seeing it in the movie "Dharm".

@Nihonjin1051 Do you also celebrate winter solstice as celebrated in South and South-East Asia.

Yes! I appreciate it as a cultural tradition, tho I do not adhere to the religious aspect of it, etiology.

Not just Brahmin, most of us do it, bathing is an important morning ritual to clean your body. During some auspicious days like full moon day(poornima), people take holy dip in the rivers.

Where is the Emperor ? The leader of Shintoism

His Imperial Majesty ushers forth these festivities when he beckons the Imperial ancestors in prayer. He starts the festival prayers, the everyone else follows. Even those of us who are not Shinto, we appreciate the cultural importance. The repository of this institution.
