Japan accuses South Korea of 'extremely dangerous' radar lock on plane

. . .
The Japanese public is moving away from the US and sick of the lack of respect US soldiers shows Japanese civilians (esp in Okinawa.)

Japan’s government placates the public by making rash statements like bringing back Japan’s military, but they are puppets to the US.

How long can this last?

I wonder if Japan leaves the US sphere, if China will make a deal on the disputed islands.

The Japanese public in Okinawa are pissed that bases are there I mean I would be pissed if I had daughter living near a Army base with horny dudes lol,and there have been rape cases with the locals you know Americans have big yellow fever mentality, the problem is Japan's Government pretends to be nationalist but always bends backward for the Americans but also Japan does want to reconize its crime in WW2 which prevents relations with China,Korea,Vietnam and SE Asia to flourish politically however economically its pretty cordial,I would love for Japan to became a hub of Pan-Asian thought again but I know Shinzo Abe wont do it

South Korea's says the radar was on to help a drifting North Korean boat thus not directed at the Japanese aircraft.

But of course trust between the two sides is low so inconclusive really except one thing which is that trust continues to be low.

SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's Navy warship used an optical camera to identify an approaching Japanese patrol aircraft last week, military sources said Sunday, rejecting Tokyo's claim that it had directed its fire-control radar at the plane.

The sources also said that the warship's tracking radar system was in operation while the camera was on, but it did not send out any radar beam directly toward the Maritime Self-Defense Force's P-1 patrol aircraft.

Diplomatic tensions spiked after Japan claimed that the South's Gwanggaeto the Great destroyer targeted the Japanese plane on Thursday. Seoul said that Tokyo misunderstood its naval operation to help a North Korean ship drifting near a sea border.

"Though a radar system was in operation at that time, there wasn't any radar beam sent out toward the Japanese aircraft," a military source said on condition of anonymity. "We make it clear that there wasn't any act on our part that threatened the Japanese maritime patrol aircraft."

Seoul's Ministry of National Defense has rejected Tokyo's claim, saying that it has already explained its position to Japan and will strive harder to ensure that there will not be any "misunderstanding."

Critics here raised speculation that politicians in Tokyo appear to be using the incident to divert attention from the government's waning public support.

Northeast Asia is geographically and culturally close
All the problem will be solved when china become strong, they will be brothers and sisters again

vietnam included

China would have to embrace democracy first. ROK, Taiwan, and Japan are deeply democratic. Vietnam isn't but obviously they worry about their security in regards to China.

China traditionally is a self centric country with self centric people. The Chinese can’t protect anyone. They care mostly of themselves. When Vietnam is weak, the Chinese start invasions raping our country and people.

Japan needs to become a real independent country first, not the west's lapdog

Just like how China exist and Japan has to find a working relationship with China, the US also exist and so a working relationship would have to be found with the US as well. But the US and Japan are forging a security relationship for the Indo-Pacific that cannot be contested. That is the most secured path for Japan.

There are four critical areas that are of Japan's security interest.

1. Denuclearization of the DPRK.
2. Chinese Coast Guard infringements into Senkaku territorial waters.
3. Taiwan to exists as an independent country and to not be threatened by the prospect of forceful inclusion into the PRC.
4. The 9 dash line and claim over the South China Sea.

On all four of these points, Japan for the ake of its own security interests shares a common stand point as the US. Actually, when it comes to the DPRK, Japan has an even stronger stance than the US, but no offensive capacity to threaten back at DPRK. China is contrary with Japan's security interest on all four of these points.

So if China could be more helpful in getting the DPRK to denuclearize, then it would help. If China would drop its 1970s made claim on the Senkaku islands, then it would help. If China would stop threatening Taiwan with forceful inclusion, then it would help. If China would drop the 9 dash line claim and iron out spheres of influence to share the South China Sea with the other involved countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Brunei, then it would help.

But if the answer is no to that, no to that, no to that, and no to that, well then I guess we are stuck with this:

In fact, I would say that if Japan was to be conditioned by China to concede to China on all four of those points, Japan would be weaker than it currently is as a partner in the US-Japan alliance.

okay, continue your lapdog life, I don't care.

When you consider that roughly 1/3 to 1/2 of the US military can be available for deployment and patrols to the Indo-Pacific, then taking that amount which is roughly 2 aircraft carriers, 20-30 destroyers, 20-30 subs, and the usual assortment of aircraft and such, then the amount of what would be added to that by adding the JMSDF is actually quite substantial. Soon to be 2 light carriers, 22 subs, roughly 50 destroyers, and for aircraft, up to 80 to 100 P-1 patrol aircraft.. Of the total US-Japan assets for the Indo-Pacific, Japanese is making up 25-40% of it, depending what is counted. Japan is getting a better deal then what the so-called "lapdog" term would suggest. At some point the US Indo-Pacific strategy would no longer work without Japanese participation.

So it is up to China to offer a better deal. But as far as geopolitics goes, China hasn't tried very hard. Can't even give up on the Senkaku islands..

I really don't get this talk of Japan jumping ship from the US camp. Its not going to happen over measly incidents like this, the leash to is too tight. Japan virtually depends entirely on the US for military tech and training. US has Japan by the balls back during the Plaza accord and they have Japan by the balls now. Doesn't matter if the Japanese people are abused or mistreated, it will be endured as Japan needs the US.

Same is true for South Korea though to a lesser extent.

South Korea truly is the useful idiot of the American pacific alliance
