The Indian Army (IA) has issued ‘revised directives’ to its field formations deployed along India’s disputed border with China to ensure peace while ‘maintaining the sanctity’ of the 4,057 km long Line of Actual Control (LoAC) between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
Official sources told Jane’s that the new instructions require IA personnel in the area to exercise “self-restraint and take the necessary steps to avoid all aggression” that could result in escalating the situation on the ground with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
IA units, and particularly young officers, have also been told “not to contribute to any unnecessary events along the border”.
