Jamuka decides to revoke gallantry award ‘Bir Uttom’ of Ziaur Rahman

Mujib and others swore oath to Pakistan constitution, then they went ahead and led people in freedom struggle (all well and good, justified cause) but how did they have the nerve to then have oath to Bangladesh constitution and rule the country. Basically where I’m going with this is... like George Washington is hero of US but traitor of Great Britain, Mujib is hero for bd but traitor of Pakistan.

He kept his oath to the real Pakistan of 1947-1971 by remaining loyal to East Pakistanis. However there were traitors in both PA and BAL who harmed Bengalis and non-Bengalis respectively.

Op Searchlight changed all equations.
BB never intended for complete separation from Pakistan until 25 March. If he did, he would have stopped Op Searchlight in its tracks (Bengali PA soldiers repeatedly offered to revolt but BB declined). Loss of EP is entirely on PA as is many other national blunders of Pakistan.

Pakistanis will realise this one day and start holding PA accountable.. It is difficult to suppress info in this day and age.

This is exactly how Pakistan's military led establishment have deceived and and continue to deceive the Pakistani public. They set up a fake "conspiracy" case to prevent an East Pakistani party from taking charge.

i am deceived? you believe the Agartala conspiracy isnt true, when Pakistan and Awami League both say it was true. but you can believe whatever you think is true.

ah, of course. its all Pakistan's fault. everything is our fault. if you drop dead tomorrow, Pakistan's fault. if your milkman forgets to deliver your milk in Dhaka, its Pakistan's fault. Bengalis are totally innocent in everything /s

You can’t deny it though. Kashmir blunder 1947, 1965, 71 and kargil was all blunders of PA. Had pakistan had a strong democratic government which wasn’t so incompetent then maybe today kashmir would have been independent state, Pakistan would have been intact and powerful state and Indian wouldn’t have had been such a big numerical threat

what blunder did Pakistan do in Kashmir? Kashmir will never exist as an independent state. either it will be conquered by India, Pakistan or China, or it will be indirectly ruled by one of the 3. that is the nature of the world and especially our region. how independent is Bhutan? how independent has Bangladesh been so far? how independent has Pakistan been? have we not had to listen to the international community and banks whenever we get into financial trouble?

i am not denying Pakistan hasnt made loads of mistakes in many things. in East Pakistan, how we do politics in Pakistan today, how we run the economy, and so on. i am just fed up of hearing Bangladeshis say all of 1971 was our fault and current state of Pakistan-Bangladesh diplomatic ties is all our fault.

He mentioned both bangladeshis and Pakistanis for being at fault. Reread it.
kashmir had agreement with Pakistan to not join either without referendum. Had Pakistan not sent its militia into the region, the king would have no reason to panic and sign away kashmir to india. Kashmir would have been intact now influenced by the 3 of you
There would be no war involving it, no death. It would have been a tourist paradise for people of all 3 nations.
eh well. Past is past. Kashmir is to stay divided for foreseeable future.

i think you need to read about what happened around that time a little more carefully because it seems like you missed out on some facts. if not, then Mujib shouldnt have told India to leave Bangladesh and trusted them. maybe he would lived a lot longer.

Jamuka cannot revoke Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry title: BNP

Jamuka cannot revoke Ziaur Rahman’s gallantry title: BNP

Dhaka February 11, 08:47 PM UNB NEWS - UNB NEWS
Ziaur Rahman.

BNP leaders Hafizuddin Ahmed and Shahjahan Omar on Thursday questioned the authority of Jamuka to revoke Bir Uttam title conferred on Ziaur Rahman for his role in the Liberation War.

At a press conference, the two gallantry title-holding freedom fighters urged the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council or Jamuka to refrain from taking any move going beyond its jurisdiction.

BNP standing committee members arrange the press conference at the party Chairperson’s Gulshan office.

Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed was the recipient of Bir Bikram title while Major (retd) Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam, after the independence of the country for their contributions to the Liberation War.

“Stripping off anybody’s title is not the responsibility of Jamuka as this boy’s task is to determine the freedom fighters and the eligibility for getting the allowances,” said Hafiz, also a BNP vice chairman.

He also said Jamuka has no jurisdiction to take a decision on removing the Bir Uttam title of Z Force commander, sector commander and former Army Chief Ziaur Rahman.

Hafiz urged the Prime Minister not to implement such a ‘ridiculous move’. “If this initiative is implemented, then you’ll disrespect your father. Don't forget it.”

Shahjahan Omar, also a BNP vice-chairman, said it is not compressible as to why Jamuka has suddenly taken such an initiative. “What is Jumka? There were three types of freedom fighters-– military force, freedom fighter and BLF or Mujib Bahini--during the Liberation War.”

He said the military body, Center Officers’ Records Office, not Jamuka, control the freedom fighters from the military forces. “Jamuka has nothing to do with us…Jumka has no authority to say anything or take any decision about the freedom fighters from the military officers.”

The BNP leader said the decision Jamuka has taken in its meeting about the cancellation of the title of Ziaur Rahman is beyond its jurisdiction. “What the Liberation Affairs Minister said in this regard is also beyond his jurisdiction."

He said the freedom fighters achieved the titles Bir Shrestha, Bir Uttam, Bir Bikram and Bir Pratik by fighting in the war field and those cannot be taken away as per anybody’s whims.

At the beginning of the press conference, BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain condemned Jamuka’s initiative to remove Zia’s title. “Their decision is a politically motivated one. It’s also a disgrace for the Great Liberation War and the freedom fighters. Even, this decision has manifested disrespect to the judgment of the then Prime Minister who gave him the title. ”

He said none of the reasons Jamuka showed to cancel Zia’s Bir Uttam title are logical or realistic. “This move has taken out of political vengeance.”

Meanwhile, the Jatiya Muktijoddha Council (Jamuka) at meeting on Tuesday discussed the ways to revoke the gallantry title of Ziaur Rahman for ‘violating’ the constitution, ‘abetting’ the self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in escaping the country.

The meeting also agreed to repeal then state-given awards to Bangabandhu’s four convicted killers Noor Chowdhury, Shariful Haque Dalim, Mosleh Uddin and Rashed Chowdhury.

Bir Uttam, the second-highest award for individual gallantry in Bangladesh, was conferred on Ziaur Rahman for his contributions to the Liberation War as a sector commander.
