Why dont you spell it as Batt rather than Butt, afterall the surname does not derive itself from english and is a local surname. I think the use of Butt spelling is pathetic. In indian kashmir valley even muslim people spell it as Bhat but pronounce it as it is pronounced in punjab with "h" silent.

No my point was that the surname actually originates from kashmir valley under indian occupation and they spell it as "Bhat" there. So why should it be different in punjab where people are stuck with "Butt" because some britisher used this spelling in pre-independence era. The most appropriat spelling should be "Batt" or as in kashmir valley "Bhat" or "Bhatt" with "h" silent during pronunciation.
