Srinagar: The Army has convicted seven of its men including two officers for involvement in the 2010 Machil fake encounter case in Jammu and Kashmir. All convicts have been awarded life imprisonment and their service benefits have been suspended.

The soldiers have been found guilty of killing civilians and hatching a conspiracy. In 2010, three youth from North Kashmir were lured to Kupwara with the promise of job and money and were killed in a staged encounter by troops near the Line of Control. They were dubbed as Pakistani terrorists who attempted to infiltrate in the country.

The case had triggered massive protests against the Army in the valley.

This is Good and Bad.......

Bad : Because there are such officers in uniform.......Innocent civilians lost their life.....

Good : We have a system which is capable of taking care of such officers.........This convey the message, "No one is above law"

Good to see the perpetrators punished, and another positive thing to note is that the trial itself took less than a year, once court martial proceedings started.

However, if it was a pre planned conspiracy, I wonder why the death penalty was not issued. Anyway, they will rot in prison for the rest of their lives.
