WOW congrats! Would be interesting to know the aerodynamic characteristics in various external tank configurations. For example, turn rate etc. But these would probably be classified. From a mission perspective, what would be most important is their ability to avoid radar detection and evade incoming missiles while loaded with all the tanks. But I guess that leads to another discussion: how easy/hard is it for a plane to disappear in the vastness of the Pacific ocean when multiple carrier groups may be present...

Great features are coming up.It is no doubt an amazing machine.PAF should look into it and should try to have some in near future along with J 31.

No aircraft carries its drop tanks into a dogfight. They are always jettisoned before any engagement, stealth or no stealth.

As is being discussed on the thread:

1. The route will be planned to steer clear of threats in the first place. Or,

2. It will drop its tanks before entering hostile territory.

In any case, China now has a platform that can bear the weight of 4 external tanks. Adding stealth into the mix can be a future project. But this is a great achievement in itself.

What I think is that J-20 would be deployed for point defenses in and around Chinese territory/off shore bases. J-20 is not suppose to go for long range missions as its not a dedicated bomber, not to talk of long range bomber. Mounting external tanks on J-20 will compromise if not completely vanish the stealth capability of the aircraft.
