J-15 better than U.S. F/A-18 and India’s Mig-29k: Chinese daily

Recently, many keen military observers have noted that the J-15 shown on CCTV news is coated in a sea grey paint finish, and carries the navy flag under the rear part of the cabin.

There is speculation that this may be the model released for mass production. Yin Zhuo also said that the air combat capabilities of the J-15 carrier-based aircraft were better than those of the main U.S. carrier-based aircraft, the F/A-18 “Super Hornet”.

The J-15 has integrated the technology of the J-11B with carrier-based features such as canard, folding wings, and tail hook.

Its undercarriage has high strength, and the front wheel is suitable for catapult launch similar to the carrier-based fighter of the U.S. navy. The catapult launch was taken into consideration at the beginning of its design.

According to media reports, the J-15 is the first generation Chinese carrier-based fighter with outstanding capabilities in attack and defense, excellent maneuverability, and strong capability to attack targets on land or sea. It is able to seek out and destroy large mobile enemy targets on sea. The J15 fighter is equipped with 30mm machine gun and is able to carry a supersonic anti-ship missile, the YJ-62 long-range anti-ship missile, the PL-8/9 short-range air-to-air missile, the PL-12 active radar homing long-range air-to-air missile, and the ”Thunder Stone” series of gliding guided bombs.

According to the analysis of military experts, since the J-15 is newly developed, its electronic equipment is very likely to be one generation ahead of the J-11, and is definitely far superior to the Su-33,which is equipped with lagging inverse Cassegrain antenna. It is very likely that the J-15 carries electronic equipment that meets the standards of a fifth generation fighter, and reaches the level of the U.S. F/A-18E/F in this respect.

In terms of its performance compared to other carrier-based aircraft in service around the world, Yin Zhuo said that the J-15 capabilities are high. For instance, it reaches a similar level to the U.S. F/A-18C/D ”Super Hornet”.

While overall it is slightly inferior to the F/A-18E/F, it has better performance in air combat. Its ability to attack land and sea-based targets is lower than the F/A-18E/F, but it is at least equal to, and perhaps slightly better than, India’s Mig-29K.

The only way to know for sure is to go to war and face off heads to head.

On paper the Chinese copy of the SU 33 may have newer tech than the FA 18, but I doubt it matches the super hornet.

As for the Mig 29k, Its a smaller fighter that was meant to compliment the larger SU 27. I know the Ethiopians and Eritreans used the two types against each other with the Sukhoi winning out, however that does not mean it would be the same when India and China go to war.

Cheerleading your own product! Completely understand that. Cheers

since when Rafale was going head to head with in COMBAT?
since when SU30 or F18 going head to head against whom in COMBAT ????

Little pre-mature to come into conclusion on that aspect. It is very easy to boast about own products. Although I think on many aspects like chineese avionics. EW suit etc are superior to that of their Russian counterpart just because of the cheer size of R&D on chineese part. Well that is expected from 2nd largest economy of the world.
But on the other hand, one aircraft does makes the differnce. F18 e/f on paper might look life slightly inferior to J15. But there is no match to the aircrafts ascorting an F18 contingent, the EW WARFARE specialist F18 growler. Jaams rader, disrupts radio communication, stops sensors of enemy missiles from working and you can go on & on. F18 e/f growler is the game changer, the most unsung hero.

He clearly said J-15 is inferior to f-18. So period.

I thought the J15 was supposed to be an air superiority fighter, something the F-18 is not. Better comparison would be F-15 or F-22.

MIG 29 uses PESA radar. F18 uses AESA. SU 33 Pulse doppler. J 15 hoping for a PESA. Chinese nonsense. F18 SH.

RADAR for J15 -

In early 2000s, Russia had authorized the export of Pero passive electronically scanned array radar designed by Tikhomirov, to China. The Pero antenna can be easily integrated into the existing N001VEP radar system with no significant modification by simply replacing the original slotted planar array, and thus results in increased performance. The Pero upgrade, lets the radar simultaneously engage 6 aerial targets, or 4 ground targets. The radar with Pero antenna is named as Panda radar. China, however, did not accept the offer when Russia offered the Pero upgrade package because Tikhomirov's competitor Phazotron offered China a brand new phased array radar that supposedly performed better, rumored to be Zhuk-MSF. In addition to the easy of integration, the advantage of Pero passive electronically scanned array equipped Panda radar was its weight. All other radars offered for Su-30MK2 upgrade increase weight significantly that the center of the gravity of the aircraft is altered, resulting in the need to modify the airframe and redesign the flight control system. Such problems does not exist if Panda radar is adopted because it only increases the weight by a mere 20 kg, which will be compensated by the redesign of SILS-30 HUD to reduce its weight by 20 kg, thus balancing out the weight increase of the radar. This claim of Timkhomirov design bureau is confirmed by both the Sukhoi design bureau and Russkaya Avionika bureau, which claimed to media reporters at 2006 Zhuhai Airshow in China that such modification had already been successfully completed. China, however, had not made a final decision by the end of 2007, and many Russian and Chinese sources have claimed that domestic Chinese HUDs of Western origin perform better and weigh much less, and China thus planned to adopt their own avionics in the next incremental upgrade, but such claims have yet to be confirmed by western sources and official sources of Chinese and Russian governments.

Chinese copy or not, we dont follow low IQ nation's path to buy everything from foreign countries. I simply don't have any respect for such loser nations.

dude, please stop comparing in this way, better to compare what india can build vs what China has already built.

one day india/indian, always loser.

one day copycat always copycats..atleast we respect people who innovate and give credit to them..buy technology through technology transfer and not steal..like you guys..and it is not Lord China..it is Gaylord china!

mate, thats the reciepe to invite a ban. Just learn to ignore the troll.

Even though i agree J-15 or Su-33 is better than Mig-29K in it's aerodynamic characteristics, won't comment on the avionics as the data from China is not consistent. But will Su-33 be able to launch with full payload from STOBAR config aircraft carriers?
