I'm a hardcore gearhead, and extensively test drove both before my family picked up the Storme. Its a luxury vehicle, compared to the much pokier Scorpio. Though the Scorpio has a lot going for it too.

I got through various websites comparing the two - Scorpio seems to have an edge over Storme in terms of performance.

depends on the location of posting

for hilly , mountainous regions scorpio looks badass

but for high ranking officers who visit offices i would go for storme

This tender has little to do with use for official purposes - Indian Army already have some these SUV's for personal transportation - It is for forward border posts and army bases mainly located in tough terrain regions.

Perfect. My opinion too. The Scorpio's performance in the extreme section of the Raid has never been matched by the Safari. I know one of India's top rallyists personally. He says the Safari is too heavy and not geared properly for the mountains.

These stats do not give the complete picture. 0-100 timings for an SUV mean little. The Scorpio is scary above 140. Even the new one is still a boat, though it can be pushed beyond 160. The Storme I have taken to 180. Rock steady. 4 amazing discs, unlike rear drums in Scorpio. And ABS and EBD too.

But leave all that. If it were your own money, simply step into a Storme and a Scorpio and see the difference. Not just space. I am talking class as well.

These are not meant for explicitly operational roles, more for logistics and officer transport so meh.

The really interesting competition is the LSV one that the IA has supposedly just restarted, these LSVs are to replace the Gypsy in all operational roles.

But bro, even for logistics and officer transport, the Scorpio in my opinion scores over the Storme once you enter the mountains. Because not everywhere you will have paved roads. And there, heavy weight and highway-centric gearing will be a liability. The engines are near identical as can be seen from the specs as well. Just the fuel management and tuning is different. But suspension, chassis and brakes are all strong points of the Storme. As is internal space and comfort and toughness. The Storme can carry armor plating a lot easier than the Scorpio can. The Scorpio's differential is also too low. Regularly hits rocks in Leh. Not so in Storme.

I've heard the Storme is "softer" than the Scorpio in terms of ride quality, I guess from operational considerations the Scorpio is more suited to a military role than the Storme.
