NEW DELHI:
HIGHLIGHTS
  1. Multiple scenarios are being rehearsed at Yuddh Abhyas 2017
  2. It is one of the longest running military exchanges between India, US
  3. The Yuddh Abhyas started on September 14 and ends tomorrow

An American soldier fires an INSAS rifle and says approvingly: "I like it...it's good." Indian army jawans aim American rifles at targets, guided by US trainers.

These are snapshots from the "Yuddh Abhyas" - one of the longest running military exchanges between India and the US. This year, it's being held at the US Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington at a time America's Defence Secretary James Mattis, a decorated war veteran and close Trump aide, is in Delhi, meeting top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Yudh Abhyas started on September 14 and ends tomorrow. The exercises are one of the largest running military training and defence corporation programmes between the two countries. Earlier today, Nirmala Sitharaman said: "Our military-to-military engagement continues to grow. In our talks today, we agreed to explore additional, specialised exercises."

The exercises in Washington are the 13th edition of the joint event hosted alternately by the two countries.

According to the Defence Ministry, "the exercises provide an opportunity to the armed forces of both countries to train in an integrated manner at the battalion level with joint planning at the brigade level."

Multiple scenarios are being rehearsed at Yuddh Abhyas 2017, with both sides keen to learn about each other's organisational structure and battle procedures. The government says this will enable Indian and US forces to work together "in a higher degree of jointmanship" and meet any crisis across the globe.

Yuddh Abhyas is the operational end of the increasingly close military relationship between India and the US. According to the US Secretary of Defence, this is "a time of strategic convergence. As India takes its rightful place at the global table, it will find the US to be a steadfast friend and partner."

A part of that strategic convergence is learning from each nation's experiences in planning operations which involve a variety of threats. Though India insists that the joint exercise is taking place in an operational setting under a pretend-UN mandate, the growing closeness of the armed forces and extremely complex military exercises mean that the prospect of the two working together in an international scenario cannot be ruled out

. . .
When an American says it's good then is it really good?
What then if he says it's bad?
We must choose equipment as per our needs and not as per American reviews.

Yudha Abhyias was for interoperabity of both forces when facing a common enemy. So Indian soldiers use M4 carbine and American soldiers use INSAS

.
Time to replace INSAS. There have been reports that certain paramilitary forces and state police have ordered indigenous rifles like Ghatak, Amogh and the Excalibur. Aren't these or the MCIWS good enough to be inducted into the Army if their manufacturing is handled by a private firm so that better quality products can be achieved

That's just a good gesture from host side.

its what i say if i am a guest and you make the absolute horrific tea....

INSAS is not a good rifle.

I mean who in their right minds makes weapons that are not designed to kill?

This tendering of rifles is going for too long. Tendering for defence should not be allowed and if at all allowed, should not exceed more than 6 months.

The insas has been dubbed the worst modern rifle in history while the British sa80(i think it is called that) is in second position.. really a 1900s mauser action rifle has better reliability than insas...

back that up , else stop being a Troll!!

It has one of the worst ergonomics .. it has a severe reliability issue . Its magazine crack up in cold environment (due to the fact that the magazine is produced by a plastic lawn chair producing company).. the plastic parts tend to break..
I also heard that the IA stopped finning soldier on damage issues related to insas as they wore prone to getting damaged by even the slightest use.
And lets not forget it used to spray oil (even though it may have been fixed) still reminds us the fact that the designers and producer were such incompetent guys ... And i have never heard of any gun spraying oil .

It's superior because it does not blow up at firing. India must have imported the bullets.

For example

So incompetency runs in all branches of the Indian military industrial complex which according to your very own Generals is inferior to ours, perhaps instead of creating terrorism in the region (Terror Mata) you should focus on improving your defence industry and to be frank the truly immense poverty in your nation which in many places pales that of even Sub-Saharan Africa.
Say No To Terror Mata!!!!

Tell if you are so knowledgeable what does insas offer better than other rifles...
It will not change the fact that insas is a sorry to say piece of crap..
And i bet you won't be able to name any modern gun in service more crappier than insas
