Italy 'bribed the Taliban all over Afghanistan'

Anyone have watched movie The Lion of the Desert???
What is the relevance in this context?

Pay money, start safe. Don't pay money and die. What's the problem with the paying solution?
Depend on how long you will be paying. There is a point where financially it becomes more interesting to stop paying and start shooting again. Then again, given the cost of smart weapons (a JDAM kit costs $25,000), that can be a long time....

So the Italians had a sit down with the Taliban over some canolli and decided to pay courtesy money to the taliban families for their good graces. What's wrong with that?
The Italians do it all time.

Made them an offer they couldn't refuse, perhaps?

It will always be cheaper than a funeral service and financial support to their families or life long support to cripples who lost a leg or arm or even PTSD.

Lives saved ... priceless

In war a soldier reported to German General, Sir, Italians wage a war.
General smoke his Cigar & said, what's the problem send 10 divisions & crushed them, but Sir, Soldier interrupted , Sir, they are wage a war with our side.
General got nervous & ordered , deploy 20 divisions & rescued them.

What is the Italian battle flag? A white cross on a white background; What is the shortest book ever written? Italian War Heroes; What’s got six reverse gears and one forward gear? An Italian tank. The forward gear is in case they get attacked from behind’; ‘What nation’s soldiers had the most sunburnt armpits of WWII?’.’ Italy’s soldiers’.
French rifle never used .. Dropped only once.. Brand new.

@the topic ...

Old news... They paid money .. French paid in blood..

Italian Special Forces have taken part in anti-Taliban operations in Afghanistan as part of Task Force 'Nibbio'. Italy has sent 4200 troops, dispatching troops after May 1, 2003. As of 2006, Italy ranks third in the world in number of military forces operating in peacekeeping and peace-enforcing scenarios. As of June 2006 32 Italian troops have been killed in Iraq

They bribed Taliban because they were taking casualties.

at least the italians paid for safety, a protection racket... usa army and cia are in cahoots with taliban in a drugs trade.

don't bring racism here.
Lol...racism....

Paid for safety ? .....they could have saved the money if they didn't go to war itself....why go to a war zone if you don't wanna fight in the first place. Two faced cowards!

Every one who saw the interview of Rahul Gandhi before the election know what a dumbo he is.....

What is the relevance in this context?
Italian forces fight in Libya against Bedouin tribal leader Omar Mukhtar during WW2.

Another reason why you should never invade Afghanistan.

only people of subcontinent can kick their arses and no one else in the world :P

Well, unlike the Americans or British, Indians or Pakistanis, they are at least not hypocrites of the highest order. Proclaiming and preaching one thing, doing another.
So this, i respect about Italians, no matter how much Mafia syndicates you associate with them.
It's part of the human nature, the psychology, the selfish gene that makes us survive for the better. Plenty of idiots breeding in this part of the world, so you really cannot predict a liner and secure future.

That's why I'm in favour of paying ransoms. Not paying them won't restrain terrorists because they know that the tough talk most governments spout in public is just a farce.

I've a simple rule regarding Italians (after years of dealing with them):

Rule:
Whenever an Italian opens his mouth, means he's lying......

Italians maybe the only people more corrupt than the ones from subcontinent.
I have almost no dealing with Italians but thats surprising to hear. More corrupt than us? :o

it also shows weakness of afgans.. if brits could bribe some americans and fight others, they would have stayed on... and still be ruling there.
even afgan army is so difficult to build because of same reason.

Again, what is the relevance to the topic of bribery?

Where is that @Markus - the half Italian who boasted of some superiority here....look at your troops valour and courage !!!!!!!!!!!!!

We already knew this about Italians- we hot Sonia and Rahul Gandhi

We also know about La Cosa Nostra........
