What's new

Italian forces ignored a sinking ship full of Syrian refugees and let more than 250 drown.

Because I was in a discussion with Hannibal Barca, and that's his home base. I like people - including myself - to take a look first at how their own country is doing, before criticising others. That's why.
He is from Tunisia though....

.
I ain't from Turkey... :) Don't worry.. your not the first...neither the last.
Therefore My critics were rightful...
So why 2 Turkish flags then? And about the rightfullness of your critics, if you are from another country, I would have looked at the role IT plays in all this. (Just because your not from Turkey, don't make you right)

.
i dont seen anyone except turkey so i ask, if you know they do means tell the details, else keep calm, i ask a doubt for that dont rant unwanted words first.

Just Saudi Arabia

With Saudi Arabia’s non-signatory status, the Syrians residing in Saudi Arabia are classified as “Arab brothers and sisters in distress” instead of refugees covered by UN treaties. According to Nabil Othman, the UNHCR regional representative to the Gulf region, there were 500,000 Syrian refugees in Saudi Arabia at the time of his statement. The government itself of Saudi Arabia has stated that it has, over the past five years since the start of the conflict hosted 2.5 million refugees.

Because the noted treaties establish treatment standards for refugees, some might raise concerns regarding the conditions that Saudi Arabia’s refugees may be living in. However, Al-Arabiya, a news outlet based in the UAE, has noted that “Saudi authorities granted Syrians the right of residency and work, and provided them with education and health services for free.” According to the Saudi government, over 100,000 children are currently receiving education in the country’s schools. Saudi Arabia is not alone in attempts to provide education for the refugees, with Lebanon now providing schooling for another 100,000 child refugees.

Check my flags again... I know it may be sometimes difficult at first glance to see btw a Turkish and a Tunisian flag...

Therefore I know What tunisia has done since few years... and what she's capable to do with the limited equipment she has... and what sh's investing into to make it easier for every side...
That's again... I think I'm right...

I don't know what you want to prove... since the only "bad" news is from a namibian news...with no sources around... therefore false...since no one speak about except them...
and the "smuggler" news... hope youdon't put migrants and smugglers in the same basket... I hope not...

As for the other sources.. they give us a Good light...

Anyway... To this day... never TN navy sunk a ship of migrants or refused to help when they were near it... :)

. . .
Majority of refugees from Syria are from Muslim Sunni faith... therefore Iran has no interest in it... Till this day Iran send aid package inside Assad - Shia Majority region/city of Syria only ...

You are right to some extent. However, I don't see anything wrong there looking at things from Iran's point of view, since they are merely following their national interests and furthering their influence in the region by supporting and financing thier own proxy groups. So it's true they are more at ease with a member of their own sect(alawite/shia) being in power in Syria (or even Lebanon Hezbollah)hence they will maintain their support for the Assad regime for as long as possible.
However, even if the regime was Sunni and friendly towards Iranian policies in the region, I believe they will still support the regime in place there, even though I agree they will be more at ease with a Shia regime .
Having said this I understand why they don't spend anything for refugees fleeing the country. They have other priorities to be honest.

On another note, I'm surprised to see KSA has been spending a lot on Syrian refugees and taking in quite a significant numbers of them. Interesting, never knew that.

Lol I must confess in the beginning I did the same mistake thinking your flag was Turkish. Lol Even though I speak French and i have been to Tunisia twice I still confused your flag .lol. So I can understand someone who doesn't speak French nor has been to Tunisia will also make a similar mistake. :)

No, not false, my friend, simply because Namibian report.

South African News24-site reports same: http://www.news24.com/Africa/News/Tunisia-coastguard-sinks-migrant-vessel-20110215
They bad too?

The original report is from AFP (Agence France Presse) as the clearly article states.

This informs about how you look at ' African news souces'.

Don't be silly. The point is the inadequacy of Tunisian coast guard against these smugglers, which may well be the same or similar organized crime that does human trafficking.

" with no sources around..."
Sydney Morning Herald says:
Tunisian migrants say coastguard rammed boat
Kaouther Larbi Djerba, Tunisia
Published:
February 16 2011 - 3:00AM

quotes a survivor, Ziad Ben Abdaalah, 23
His statements were confirmed by seven other survivors, of which 1 also explicitly named.

So, besides knowing that AFP first published the story, you now have a reporter name and the name of 2 of 7 survivors. That enough clarity on the source(s) for you?

Back to the oiriginal point: do you (still) feel it is fair to take one incident as yardstick by which to judge the multiyear continuous efforts of any particular coast guard active in this area of the Med? Particularly if you consider that Italian CG and Navy alone are responsible for almost half the people picked up at sea.

Well yet.. it's always on "Maybe" and "accused"... still no proof... While Italians one is with "actual proof" of not helping and let die...

As for this "news" for TN navy... at least if true... 99% were saved... and they were Tunisian nationals... so even the guilt in it is less...

But yeah till this day NO PROVED actions against migrants that lead to NOT helping when we could is on the table... :)

And as why this news is not really true... bc something like that will have been viral in all our channels... for even less that that... we got 3 ministers fired...
Scandals like that will have been spoken everywhere... we ar enot a big country...

We even got few times... ppl getting on tv... bc their "traffickers" wouldn't let them in the boat..;even tho' they paid for it... :)

And few cost guards were fired for taking " a tunisian" migrant by force by the neck when he refused to jump on the costguard boat...

ANd right now... few policeman are on the verge of getting fired...for... filming a woman insulting them... bc they shouldn't have to do that... that's the society we are today...

so Yes I will put my 2 cents of "maybe" on the ONLY bad news about migrants from TN navy you gave me...

Hve Fun :)

Lame response. I'm not here doing a court case, just gave you 10min worth of my time on google. Clearly, if you dig around long enough you can find something bad about just about any organization in any country. You are simply not willing to concede that the world is a bit more complex. But hey, if you insist one putting down all the effort of all the Italian navy and CG personnel based on 1 case (which, strictly speaking, isn't proven either, since there has been no formal independent investigation and/or court case), then be my guest. I don't know what you hope or intend to achieve by that. And it is not that I think that things that (apparently) go wrong, shouldn't be addressed and rectified. But this problem isn't helped by finger pointing and the 'wholier than thou' attitude can best be left at home, thank you.

Well... since you like jumping on conclusion faster than Mister lightning... be my guest... But I clearly stated by "NOT" all IT navy are like that... I was just speaking about that peculiar incident...

And in no ways I put Angelic thought about any organization since they are driven by Man therefore never perfect...

But What I Have the right to point in when a news you give is based on an "accusation" and "maybe"... you can believe me or not about his truthness... but something like that WOULD HAVE BEEN on every talkshow, tv/ press in Tunisia...

In the End, YOU are the one who brough that up... remmeber your " Turkey did that..." and " You shoudl see in front of your door ..." You were the first to Off topic this thread... hope you didn't forgot about that...

Anyway... Have fun.

Nothing in our discussion is off-topic, as it all deals with which institutions are involved, what are their responsibilities, how well do they do, etc.
