What's new

ISRO's GSLV D5 likely to be launched in early January 2014

GSLV Mk II payload to GTO is 2 to 2.5 tons according to ISRO

For LEO its 5,000 kg.

First satellite it proposed to carry is of 2.3 tons. Vehicle will increase its payload gradually.

Similarly MK 3 will increase it to 6.0 tons from 5 tons. Leo load will be more than double.

Why bother with GSLV Mk2 ? When at the same time India is developing GSLV Mk3.

Because if we have to put 3.0 tons in Geo, we will not have to use GSLV MK 3.

GSLV Mk II

Payload To GTO- 2 to 2.5 Tons

Payload To LEO- 5 tons

GSLV Mk III

Payload To GTO- 4 Tons

Payload To LEO- 10 tons )Probably)

Except the 10 ton payload all other figures are authentic.

You see all these figures very conservative. E.G what is the point in saying 2 to 2.5 tons? when it carries 2.3 ton satellite in its first flight. Efficiency of cryo engine will improve a lot once it is operationalized. It will easily cross 3.0 tons.

It is like Agni IV. First test 800 KG payload 3200 KM range. Second test 1000 KG with 4000 KM range.
