ISRO is working on a high resolution imaging satellite (GISAT) that will be parked in Geo synchronous orbit. So far Indian imaging satellites were parked in SSO, so could not provide real time imaging. The Gisat will provide the pictures of the areas of interest on near real time basis. That is, selected sector-wise imaging every five minutes and entire Indian landmass every 30 minutes at 50 metre spatial resolution. GISAT
will work in visible and IR bands.

The real time IR band capability can be used in ballistic missile defense system.:taz:

Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne, speaking to the media at Bangalore, a day after the launch, said that the IAF was looking at the Geo Stationary Satellite GSAT 7A and GSAT 7C satellites.
“We have a contract with ISRO for GISAT 7A and there are some delays here. It will meet a number of our requirements,” he added. GSAT-7 is a multi-band satellite carrying payloads in the UHF, S-band, C-band and Ku-band. The satellite weighs 2,330kg with a payload power of 2000W and the satellite configuration has been finalised with design of new payload elements having been completed.

RISAT will allow for earth imaging during day and night in all weather conditions
