Joint R&D could be explored in developing a Vshorad system, Light Howitzers, and subsystems for LCH/ALH WSO among a few. We also should look into developing some remote firing solutions for LOC and IB.

Why limit that opportunity to low end stuff? We need them to get high end weapons and techs, HALE and helicopter drones, FMBT, NG AAM and PGM for stealth fighter.

baby steps... baby steps

That would be a waste, we have to aim high with joint developments, like FGFA or Brahmos, while leave the lower end to Indian industry. The more R&D projects we can fix with Israel, the more independent they get from US and therefor opens us access to weapons and techs that otherwise are restricted, see EL 2052 AESA or Stunner missile. And now when the US is limiting their funding for Israel, it is the chance for us to get more.

Light Howtzer or a even a light tank for the mountain division is not as simple as one might think. Higher number of assemblies need a very elaborate engineering, quality and testing regime. The advantage Israel brings is concurrent engineering. VSHORAD systems because I dont believe we have any that we are developing. Another system that comes to mind is an Astra I /II based fire and forget SAM system. (Spyder/Aspide type system)

OT: any articles on Mig 27 Engine issue

The howitzer side is pretty much covered to day, I still hope that Obama brings clearance for M777, otherwise the Kalyani group has something in the pipeline too and even DRDO is getting better in that area, light tanks however would be great.
Astra as a SAM similar to the AMRAAM SAMs are a possibility, but with Barak 8 LR, Akash and Maitri, there is hardly a niche for it and certainly no interest from the Israeli side for it. I prefer the otherway around and going for smaller Barak 8 systems developed to replace Spyder SAM in Israeli forces, fill the Maitri gap in our and used as a NG AAM. That would have a far higher potential, be it capability wise or in potential orders.

And some nice pics of a Mig with AL 31 engine, that the Russians proposed us as part of the Mig 27 upgrade, but if I remember correctly they asked for too much money and that was rejected:
