buk is close range defence system, s-300 is anti-access/area denial system with much longer range for bigger assets (e.g. fighter jets)

should be used together to create layers of air defence for different threats

s-300 pushes aircraft out of range --> buk intercepts the munitions.

a good area defence needs all different types (s-300/400, pantsir, buk, SHORAD, etc) but with all radars integrated and with airborne EWACs and multiple jamming/EW assets and strategy (only activate certain radars at first otherwise you reveal location of all of them to decoy attacks, etc)

the jets fire their missiles from outside range of s-200 (s-300 not in operation yet + wouldn't make difference because also outside their range), e.g. from lebanese airspace (lebanon has no air defence before you ask).

Syria is too weak to respond, but they respond more now than a few years ago at least. Should send BMs into Tel Aviv each time Israel attacks, but Syria is scared of the huge response from Israel.

The Arabs joined with the US to overthrow and weaken Syrian Govt for Israel to be able to do this. But slowly slowly Syria will bide its time and recover and restore deterrence.
