ISPR’s official Twitter handle still active despite social media chatter

RAWALPINDI – The official verified account of Inter-Services Public Relations, Pakistan Military’s media wing is fully functional despite social media reports of suspension.

The Director-General ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor uses Twitter handle @OfficialDGISPR to disseminate information to the Twitterati and mainstream media through his account having 892 K followers.

Interestingly, the Twitter handle which is currently managed by General Asif Ghafoor does not carry his name, which subsequently means that Ghafoor’s successor would be using the same handle.

Earlier, when Ghafoor’s predecessor Major Asim Saleem Bajwa relinquished the post in 2016, the account was not handed over to the upcoming DG ISPR, primarily due to the fact that the Twitter handle @AsimBajwaISPR carried his name.

ISPR managed another account @ISPR_Official which now seems to be merged into the handle @officialdgispr, currently managed by the incumbent ISPR chief.

The account @ISPR_Official is no more on the microblogging platform though it had a staggering 2.74 million followers but was inactive since June.
