RHODE ISLAND: The Islamic School of Rhode Island in West Warwick was vandalised over the weekend, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have commenced their investigation into the matter, CBS News reported.
FBI’s Boston division announced a civil rights investigation into the vandalism Saturday night.
Officials at the school said that the entrance was sprayed with orange graffiti which read “Now this is a hate crime,” and offensive references to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
The president of the school’s board of trustees, Hilmy Bakri, said that the school which opened in 2004, had never before been subjected to such an account of vandalism or any other serious threats.
Reports said that the school was vandalised just a day after a vigil was held for the three Muslim students who were killed in North Carolina.
A statement was released Tuesday, condemning the the vandalism.
“This shameful incident is completely at odds with our state’s founding principles, and I hope the perpetrators will soon be brought to justice. To the families and staff who were affected, please know that Rhode Island stands with you and supports you.”
Similarly in Washington, authorities were investigating anti-Muslim graffiti spray painted on a Hindu temple.
Unidentified individuals had sprayed one of the outside walls of the temple with graffiti saying “Get out” and the swastika.
