FWO starts expansion work on Islamabad Expressway

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that construction work on the expansion of the seven-kilometre portion of Islamabad Expressway, from PWD to GT Road, has started with the clearing and grubbing work along the construction site, according to news published on November 28.

As per the details, the clearing and grubbing work was started two weeks ago and is expected to be completed within two weeks. Once it is completed, the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) will start construction work to widen the busy road.

The CDA officials (whose names were not disclosed) mentioned that the civic agency has asked the contractor to complete the expansion project in six months. The work on the expansion of Sohan Bridge and the construction of Bindar Bridge will be started after the expansion project is finished.

It is important to note that the CDA Board accepted a bid of PKR 11 billion by FWO for the expansion of the Islamabad Expressway to four lanes from the existing two lanes.

The news source mentioned that the expansion of the Sohan Bridge and the construction of the Bindar Bridge and an underpass on the Japan Road are part of this project. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The news source stated that the Islamabad Expressway has already been expanded to Koral. The two-kilometre portion of the expressway, from Korang to the PWD stop is being expanded under another project; which is expected to be completed within the next four months.

I was there in December 2021. Spend 5 days. Even ran 5k back to my hotel one night because the Ubers were not existent or kept canceling my ride due to not having cash (they refused to take cards). I didn’t have a careem account.
