What's new

Islam is defined by its followers. We moderate Muslims must act

Islam is only what Muslims actually do. Any religion is what its followers do.

ok , and now you will say that islam is what those lunatics which makes at most 1% of the Muslims do ? lol

you are truly a genius keep us enlighten with your thoughts ... we are so blessed :P

on topic ... Muslims dont have to do anything , because any effort by Muslims will not get any attention from the Western media unless there is a big news ... Sensation is what media sell these days , putting terrorist on headlines and cover page ..

The more i read instances of wanton violence perpetrated by radical Muslims, the more I believe it is important to have greater Spiritual Meditation on the words of the Divine. Young Muslims, more often than others, tend to have to defend their faith , their religion because of the dastardly deeds of fanatical extremists. It is unfair, really. Because not all Muslims adhere to the visions, and interpretations of extremists who advocate for terrorism.

As the Bible says, don't mix the wheat with the weed. It is unfair for us, as a society, to judge the whole lot for the reprobate behavior and actions of a misguided few.

I would say that there needs -- more moderate minded, and intellectually trained Muslim Theologians , who are schooled in real Muslim Seminaries , and not some unknown self-trained Imam who was influenced by some kind of radical, twisted form of Islam. Again, this is the reason why self-interpretation of things is not always a good thing -- there should be guidance from a learned, benevolent Spiritual Teacher (notice i use the word "teacher" instead of "leader").

What say you, brothers @waz , @Hakan , @Sinan , @xenon54 , @Syed.Ali.Haider , @Syrian Lion , @al-Hasani , @1000 , @Oscar , @Desert Fox , @Gufi , @DESERT FIGHTER ?

There is no such thing as Moderate Muslims:disagree:

Yes there are. I am proud to call some of my good friends as brothers. Many of them are Muslims.

Then please tell me what the hell is the US doing all over the world ? What were the World Wars all about ? What about the blowing ups and whatnot in Burma ? What about Israel ? What about Sierra Leone ? What about Rwanda ? What about just about all of history ? Where was Islam then ? Perhaps it inspired all of that violence too. Violence is inherent in human nature. It is not confined to one religion...and even if it was, history certainly shows that it is not Islam.
Your vision is limited, your rhetoric flawed and your arguments mediocre. Please stop embarrassing yourself.

Not this " US is doing blah blah" same old excuses. It's no wonder we also hear the "so and so terrorist is not a Muslim, a Muslim cannot kill a fly". Forever putting blame at other's feet. The question I have is, "How's that strategy of deflecting working out for your team?"

" BUT the US killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims in Iraq!" , they love to say. wrong again- it was Muslims killing on on Muslims that contributed to most deaths. "But they falsely attacked a country" , we may read. True, but we also removed a dictator who actually killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims.

Blaming the U.S for everything and never bothering to introspect means you add fuel to the extremist mindset.

In any religion, if one follower does some thing he is referred as "Problem" but when many followers started doing it based on religion then there is surely a "Problem" somewhere in religion, either in Holy Book or its interpretation.

Moderate muslims need not to do anything. It's a failure of the govt. that they allowed these extremists in their society, people need to elect more responsible govt.

Hi,

For that particular reason I have stated many a times---that the muslims---the pakistanis mulsims have different God that they follow---it is not the same God of Prophet Mohammad---they seem to follow a prophet named Mohammad but he is not the same Prophet Mohammad who was a messenger of Allah.

The perversity of the people is reflective in the way they practice their religion---.

Introspection is done in peace...we have not had widespread peace in Muslim lands since the US went overt with its war on terror. Sure we had our problems, and sure Saddam was a dictator but don't come and pretend the you guys made things better. You pretend as if you guys are some angels but the fact is that you have made the world a worse place. Yes we have a problem where we like to deflect the blame onto the Wests shoulders but much of that blame actually belongs there. One day the dust will settle and this bloodshed will be over...on that day Islam will stand but I am not too sure if the same will be said of the West.

You struck a main point. There needs to be a reduction in the apologetics in that regard. Utter condemnation must be seen by the Muslim Community on these rising tide of extremism. Change has to start from the religious community within. The same in regards to how the Catholic Church passed necessary changes in the 1st Vatican Council and recently the 2nd Vatican Council -- to address some dogmatic and doctrinal realities.

During the Centuries long Catholic - Protestant Wars in Europe, lasting peace was ensured not by military victories of Catholic Monarchs and their armies , or Protestant Monarchs and their armies. Lasting change was seen when the Catholic Church implemented the Reformation Ecclesiae, which addressed the many liturgical, theological, doctrinal qualms that were addressed by Martin Luther and other Protestant leaders.

It starts within the religious community itself. And look now; Protestants and Catholic and Orthodoxy live in relative fraternity with each other.

Islam will need to make introspective analysis and eventual reformation. There has to be a doctrinal, liturgical and theological authority wherein all branches of Islam may refer to for guidance.

Of course there are, but it appears that even the moderate ones are just one brainwashing session away from becoming extremists! That is really unfortunate in my view.

Not just that. The problems with the muslims extremist mindset existed long before US even arrived on scene. Just look at how the other minorities have been reduced in muslim-dominated countries.

My larger point is that all organized religions are EVIL. period.

i agree with you ... we dont follow the Prophet who was sent to world as mercy, and on his name we ( Muslims ) just unleash the wrath on others ...

Muhammad (PBUH) espoused for mercy and peace. Anyone who reads the Holy Q'uran (and i have read it) and meditate on what he says, which is supposed to have come to him through the Angel Gabriel, it was identical to the Analects mentioned in the Holy Bible even in Holy Talmud -- will know that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) always emphasized in living in peace with others. Respect of others, and communion with others.

Too often, leaders have used Islam for political reasons , and have even warred with each other and purposely distorting the words of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Then again, it goes to show us, we have to live in the world, and not for the world.

Peace.

@Syed.Ali.Haider , more than twice, my Muslim friends invited me to Mosque after end of Ramadan, and even when my friends introduced me to the Imam , i never was treated with disdain (and i did not feel it , too) despite my being Christian Orthodox. The Imam in his mosque was even very educated on Parables, and was citing to me of Biblical passages bout the Feast of Canan. That's when i said to myself, "wow! this spiritual man really knows a lot!". This is why i know -- through first hand -- that Muslims are good people and that Imams / Spiritual Teachers have a role to help cultivate Muslim's appreciation for the Divine and to live a holy, moral life according to Islam.

This is why i know that there are --indeed -- moderate Muslims. Muslims that see brotherhood between Christians.

This is the reason why we have to evade in trying to scapegoat all Muslims for the mistakes of misguided few , many of times they are influenced by wrong interpretation. Sigh.

The real pity is that such people are already a minority which is shrinking even further. That is the sad reality.
