ISIS Destroying Iraq's Cultural Heritage One Site At a Time - Mecca Next !!

We gave the FSA a few rifles and some MRE's. That's it. Besides, I like it when a bunch of terrorists beat each others brains in. Assad, ISIS, Iran, what's the difference ? And they're not MY holy sites they're blowing up.

Correct. Ever since the extremism that has plagued Egypt, Iraq, Syria,...plethora of religious minorities have been subjected. Not only Shias, but I'm talking about heirs of the land including my fellow brother Orthodox Christians, Coptic Orthodox, many of whom have been in there even before the birth of Islam. Roman Catholics , too , have been targeted in Syria.

Are you both Christians? Are there many Christian holy sites in that region?

As for our "holy sites", well the Red Guards took care of those during the Cultural Revolution.

Yes, I am Orthodox Christian. And yes, there are many Christian sites in the Middle East.

Orthodox Christianity is the oldest form of Christianity. And it predates Islam by 1400 years.

@Chinese-Dragon ,

The Middle East was once Christian in totality.

I'm no expert, but it looks like a mosque to me.
ISIS belongs to salafi school of thought. They consider praying at shrines is against Islam. Its common practice to put mosque like towers at shrines here. Some time mosques are made as part/next to shrines.

That's NONE of your business !!! Just kidding. I was raised Roman Catholic. Twelve years of Catholic school. But now I'd say I'm an 'ala carte' Catholic.

Here are some pictures of the Christian Coptic Churches in Egypt.

In Palestine, there are also Christians there. Many are part of the Roman Catholic Church, a theological brother of Orthodox Christianity:

LoL ! I was raised Orthodox, but I attend either Orthodox or Catholic masses. Since there's not much Orthodox Churches in South Jersey, i usually go to my local Catholic parish.

:)

Depends, since there are many denominations we all have different places that might be considered special or sacred to each denominations. But without any dispute we all consider Jerusalem as the most important places in sense for Christianity, and secondly as a Lutheran Germany is the second important place since that is where Martin Luther lived and wrote the thesis which challenged the power of the Catholic church, however we don't consider it as a holy place.

Hi , are you Christian @IndoUS ?

Yup, I am lutheran.

A Brother in Christ...! :-)

I also know there's a lot of Catholics, Orthodox, and Evangelicals in India. One of my friends in my church is from Kerala. Lots of Christians there, eh?

While everyone has their collective panties in a bunch over Gaza, these ISIS guys are doing some heavy duty damage. What a bunch of @ssholes !! Who is going to stop these guys ? Iran ? Saudi ? Turkey ? Pakistan ? This DOESN'T look good.

Maybe it wasn't such a brilliant idea to go to war in Iraq and remove the regime that kept peace in the region and kept religious fanatics out of the country?

Look at the irony - USA invaded Iraq with one of the pretexts being that they had ties to al qaeida. Now Americans are asking everybody in the world to save Iraq from Al qaida affiliated groups, which never existed there before.

Biggest blunder was when the United States disbanded the Iraqi Army. They should have kept it in place.

Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi killed a 100,000 Muslims like ISIS to clean up the garbage of Islam in Egypt and then Allah gave him 3 consecutive victories over the Crusaders. ISIS is the garbage of Islam if they are destroying holy places. They will be cleaned up as well.

Yes, that was a big blunder indeed.

That's one of the reasons that China has a policy of "non-intervention" (apart from our lack of power projection), because when it comes to interventions, every choice seems to be the wrong one, and everyone ends up hating you anyway.
