Is Indian Navy walking into F-35 trap

Scrap Pak-fa also, and go for 7-8 squadrons of F-35s. and 2-3 for Navy. Rest can be LCA Mk II. Pak-fa is anyway going to flounder, Russia does not have enough in the tank. With dip in energy prices, it is pretty much finished. The payoff from research done during Soviet era is over.

Without a dedicated air-superiority fighter covering it, the F-35 is useless as a combat aircraft in contested airspaces
against well-equipped enemies. That is according to the Chief of USAF's Air Combat Command himself...(Air Combat Command's challenge: Buy new or modernize older aircraft | Air Force Times | airforcetimes.com

If I do not keep that F-22 fleet viable, the F-35 fleet frankly will be irrelevant. The F-35 is not built as an air superiority platform. It needs the F-22. Because I got such a pitifully tiny fleet, I’ve got to ensure I will have every single one of those F-22s as capable as it possibly can be.

Even IF the Indian Navy decides to purchase the CATOBAR-optimzed F-35C to operate from the Vishaal and any similar future nuclear carriers...it won't be a viable asset against, say, Chinese CBGs carrying possible naval versions of J-20, unless supported by the IAF's fleet of FGFA jets geared toward air-dominance.

While operating 2 extremely different 5th gen aircraft can be a daunting logistical and economic
challenge as it is (with a 3rd aircraft in the form of the AMCA still in the offing), it would make far more sense to use the 4.5 gen Rafale-M jets (sharing logistics with the IAF's own fleet of Rafales making things much simpler) from the Vishaal and get a few dedicated maritime mission-focused squadrons of FGFA from the IAF (just like how some Su-30MKIs operate today).

And btw, FGFA program is on track...Russia itself might not be able to buy as many PAK-FAs
as originally anticipated, but the IAF's version should remain unaffected as long as India keeps
up funding the project.

He just wants few extra F-22s.:-)
Whatever its flaws India may have no other option. And don't keep your expectations too high for FGFA. 10 year drama for MMRCA and airshows and tenders and nothing happened. Looking at Russia's trajectory, it is only going down.

We are well aware about americans......india is not pakistan......thats why around 1 month ago when america said to us not to do business with IRAN we didn't even listen to them.....we do what we have to...!!!!!!!

The only place I have seen F-35's making any impact are video games and movies, in the real world the program is plagued with technical issues ranging from benign to fatal, the program is too expensive to sustain yet it seems almost everyone gave into the supposed superiority of F-35. One jet to answer all, stupid idea to begin with.

If Indians are any smarter, they would stay away from this jet.

E-2D and F-35 wouldn't be offered to India, lol.

they would want ToT and other crap.

should just terminate the F-35 and save what little face we can.

and start work on a practical 5.5 gen fighter drone.

might as well give the Russians all the details on both of them.

I'm sure India has a few spies working for the Russians.;

why give them to russia why not use them to make owr own projects like AMCA & AURA even more better ?

but if your suggesting how things work between land of the pure and its with its all weather friends (why US exsperts aere phisicalli present on air bases where PAFs F 16 BLK 52s are kept & why pakistan has to get source codes from US before each sortie or the tomahawk CM episode or the parts of stealth heli given to china after OBL raid ) ..........well sorry indo russian partenership is strictlli professional ;)

USA has agreed to sell both to India a long time ago. India did not but E-2D because India did not had CATOBAR carriers at that time and was not willing to foot the bill of converting E-2D for STOBAR operations.

F-35 was on offer for Airforce. Though India has gone for Rafale for MMRCA, F-35 is frontrunner for Naval aviation which would have three times the number of Rafale that India is buying (unless India orders more Rafales).

Given that if F-35C is selected for Indian Navy, India would be second largest (and most probably only one except USA) operator of F-35C's , it is natural that India would demand ToT on par with program partners.

Why would we pass any details to Russians? So that they could transfer those details to their newly minted chibot friends!!

Threat of espionage is always there ,and there must be Russian spies in both US army and DoD too. After all design information is as valuable ,if not more, as information on capability.
