Is Earth the only technologically-intensive civilization in Universe?

Washington: A new study has revealed that the combination of earth-based science of sustainability and the space-oriented field of astrobiology can shed light on the future of technological civilization on Earth and is the planet first and only technologically-intensive culture in Universe.

Human-caused climate change, ocean acidification and species extinctions may eventually threaten the collapse of civilization, according to some scientists, while other people argue that for political or economic reasons industrial development should be allowed without restrictions.

In the paper, two astrophysicists argue that these questions may soon be resolvable scientifically, thanks to new data about the Earth and about other planets in our galaxy, and by combining the earth-based science of sustainability with the space-oriented field of astrobiology .

Astrophysicists Adam Frank and Woodruff Sullivan call for creation of a new research program to answer questions about humanity's future in the broadest astronomical context.

The authors explained that the point would be to see that Earth's current situation might, in some sense, be natural or at least a natural and generic consequence of certain evolutionary pathways.

The researchers also showed that how habitability studies of exoplanets hold important lessons for sustaining the civilization we have developed on Earth.

According to the results, studying past extinction events and using theoretical tools to model the future evolutionary trajectory of humankind and of still unknown but plausible alien civilizations could inform decisions that would lead to a sustainable future.

The study is published in the journal Anthropocene.

And does this mean @Skull and Bones is the only intelligent human on earth?

Sir,i am a loyal supporter of the Ancient Astronaut Theory which was proposed by the great academic and self made archeologist Dr.Erik Von Daniken. If you ever get a chance to read some of his books you'll see that intelligent extra-terrestrial beings were visiting our planet long before the advent of the Human race;).

.
Aliens are all around the universe. The universe is teaming with intelligent life, some of them far far far far superior then us.

On a scale of 1-10, we would be around 1-2 in terms of technology development. (10 being the most advanced). A civilization who is 5 would be able to do time travel. A level 10 civilization would be able to create entirely new universes.

It is also possible that humans are just a colony or an experiment of some other advanced civilization.

But in any case, you are just way too backward as compared to whats out there in universe.

Earth V/s Universe is more like comparing a new born's intelligence to Einstein's intelligence. And if the new born thinks he is more intelligent (then Einstein) coz he knows crying for milk works, then its ok but far from true.. :D :D

And where on earth did you get this civilization scale from? The one doing the rounds is the The Kardashev Scale - Type I, II, III, IV & V Civilizations

It is important to note that the human race is not even on this scale yet. We are a lowly Type 0 civilization and we have a LONG LONG way to go before achieving the status of a type I civilization!!

Sucks, what? :(

Earth is the first and only technologically-intensive planet in Universe? WHY?

We are too small in the universe to say that.

In fact, we humans are anomaly on Earth, just compare us with any other species on this planet and we are markedly different from all others. :)

Oh they exist. Otherwise it would be just an awful waste of space. :)

Yep and there had been two more spottings close to ISS in Aug & Oct, cant post any pics but here the link.
from Aug,

Oct,
UFO spotted in NASA video of astronauts repairing International Space Station | Daily Mail Online

why cant it be is the question a country which has been to moon in the late 60's is still exploring mars? kinda hard to belive, looking at those achievments of 60's 40years down the line they must have done a lot then we see them doing today.
Here's the one you're probably referring to.....

The reason I think the US has not gone back to the Moon in the last 40 years is because the US has slashed funding to NASA. Read my thread I have provided a link to in my previous post on the top secret space program of the US on AboveTopSecret.com.

The Americans, Russians and ESA have probably already established bases on the Moon for extraction of Helium. NASA and its space shuttles and Apollo program were just a facade to keep the public's gaze away from what was actually going on. NASA has never published many of the pictures taken on the Moon by its astronauts. Some were airbrushed before putting them in public domain!

So the money being spent on NASA was a waste as the objective of establishing Moon bases had already been achieved.

Have the Americans and Russians already reached Mars in a joint effort with the help of ET technology? Check out Operation 'Looking Glass'. But that's the million dollar question! However read 'Alternative 3'. Makes an interesting read and extremely intriguing too!

There's more going on out there than we will ever know!

Read the statement:

"There are 100,000,000,000 (Galaxies)
Our own Milky Way is home to around 300,000,000,000 (Stars) "

So you can imagine how many stars exist in Universe !!!!

100,000,000,000 x 300,000,000,000 x (9 imagine each solar system has 9 planets)

This Number is so BIG !!!! that our human minds cannot comprehend that numeric value

If we were to send a "Probe" which teleported to these world and it took a picture snap shot in 3 second only and then it vanished even then it would take "INFINITE" amount of time from our imagination perspective to visit all the planets in Universe.

By the time such a probe would finish collecting data , and return home , sadly the time would be so large that by that time life on earth / solar system would have seized to exist

Infact not only solar system but our whole galaxy would be gone by then

The UFO visitations we hear , and news that something appeared and then vanished could possibly be such probes created by ancient civilizations to teleport to known planets and map a path to such planet ...

Why life began on Earth

1. Geological Active surface (Yes many planets /Moons have this)
2. Availability of water (Yes many bodies of universe have water , even moons)
3. Virus can exist dormant in space , similarly organisms undiscovered could live in space
4. Earth was bombarded by distant , world asteroids and rocks , who knows life was seeded in
some form in early earth thru these arrivals?
5. Chemical composition , our planet's life depends on oxygen , that does not means life
cannot exist with out it , may be on other planets life originated with different chemical
composition
6. Comet carry water source across the systems , and they shed water across as they move ocassionally crashing into planets seeding them

7. It would also not be a far fetched idea if extra terrestrial life form collected sample of animals and placed them on planet earth in distant past (After all , don't we try to do the same now when we talk of building bases on moon and mars), they created a sanctuary of animal collection they exhibit now on earth and observe from skies being invisible to naked eyes

Considering the sheer enormity of the known Universe, it's surely possible that other lifeforms exist out there, and it is also likely that those lifeforms are most probably primitive ocean-based organisms.

So there is a chance that we are the only "technologically intensive" civilization in the Universe, though I wouldn't count on it. It could really go either way.

Like Stephen Hawking said, there is a good chance that IF aliens are advanced enough to come to Earth on their own, then the most likely result is that humans will be like the Native Americans, and those advanced aliens will be like the European colonists.

I.e. Disaster for us.

Yes.

Likewise if we ever get far out into space where we start landing on other planets, we will be doing the colonizing.

Yes i have read about it, there have also been theories of ET bases on moon who had asked us to stay out of that place, with some saying, that because there was no possibility or life on moon we didn't go back, later one makes little sense, they could have gone there for extracting minirals if not making human colonies. It is a possibility that russia & US could be extacting minirals from moon,as other countries are looking for that possibility aswell, they could also be doing that on mars, but yeah these thing can be swept under the carpet calling'em conspiracy theories. Anyways thanks for the video and link, would check'em out. :)

Here's a video that will blow your mind. The known universe scientifically rendered, a journey commencing from the Himalayas to the edge of the KNOWN universe and back. Remember, this is just the known universe - a minute percentage of the actual thing!

We earthlings are non entities in this huge huge universe. You will probably realise how small and insignificant we really are.....

Don't forget to read the notations above and below the screen...

Some scientists contend that there could be billions of universes out there! And parallel universes in different dimensions too!
