PressTV - IRGC to hold security, defensive drill in Tehran: Cmdr.

A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) plans to hold a security, defensive and rescue drill in Iran's capital, Tehran.

Brigadier General Mohsen Kazemeini, commander of the Mohammad Rasool-Allah Division, said on Monday that the Bait al-Muqaddas, Ashura, Imam Ali (PBUH) and Imam Hussein (PBUH) brigades will participate in the two-day drill, codenamed Imam Jafar Sadeq (PBUH).

Kazemeini added that the drill will be held on October 11-12.

Referring to the IRGC plans for the upcoming ‘Sacred Defense Week’, Kazemeini said 15 exhibitions will be held in Tehran.

The Iranian commander added that “presenting military achievements, scientific accomplishments particularly in the defense sector and introducing the characteristics of past, current and future wars…” were among plans made for the Sacred Defense week.

Every year the Sacred Defense Week honors the braveries of the Iranian soldiers that fought during the 1980s Iraqi-imposed war and helped protect their country from foreign occupation.

Iraq's executed dictator Saddam Hussein invaded Iran on September 22, 1980 in a war that dragged on for eight years.

An annual parade held at the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in southern Tehran, that displays latest military achievements marks the beginning of the Sacred Defense week.
