Iranian play with fire using western made software.
It's ridiculous this "hack". If they can do that, what more has been hacked and we dont know at all? nuclear plant? missiles factory? IRGC headquarters?
We have no idea if "hacking" took actually place or if it was rather an inside job of sorts.
See, western media and even RT will never give their audience the full picture about Iran.
Here's some elements to ponder:
1) Evin prison has three sections. Some 80% of it is managed by the Iranian Organization of Prisons and houses regular offenders and criminals. The rest is divided up between the Ministry of Intelligence and Sepah (IRGC) Intelligence. There, people are held who acted against national security. The released video files all originate from the first section. Because the two others i.e. the most sensitive ones, are off limits even to the average infiltrator let alone to some hackers.
2) We don't even know if the computers controlling the CCTV cameras are connected to the internet.
3) The name of the purported "hacker group" is unusual in this context ("Ali's Justice"). It doesn't sound like a typical choice you would expect from any of the main opposition groups or currents. Another indication that it could have been an inside job.
Now, what actors within the system may have found an interest in leaking these clips? There are many. From "pragmatic" conservative Ali Larijani (an ally of Rohani), who seemed pretty upset about being barred from the recent presidential race, to the liberals (reformists & centrists / moderates), various parties may want to try and throw a spanner in the works of Ebrahim Raisi's presidency.
On a sidenote, I would simply observe what a non-issue these leaks tend to be, and how they're being blown out of proportion by the US- and zionist-backed Iranian opposition in exile (that clown Masih Alinejad's call on the "international community" to get involved is truly a joke).
For one, out of all these scenes, only two are showing faulty behaviour by prison guards. The rest depict minor fights between inmates as well as two suicide attempts. And frankly, it is relatively tame compared to what is going on in prisons elsewhere - be it in the US, certain European countries or in developing nations. Not to mention that these are the worst they could find from amongst the entire CCTV recordings of Iran's largest prison in a year. By the way, RT seem to be totally off track on this one - they publish a screen shot from one of the videos and present it as "undated" while the date stamp is perfectly visible on the image...
Last but not least, those who watched them like I did, are generally stunned at how clean and orderly the prison facilities are! Really, they are in better shape than much of Iran's real estate. Also, prisoners have access to a wide range of equipment in their cells - flatscreen TV sets, DVD players, fridges, air conditioners etc. Again, compared to other developing nations and even numerous prisons in wealthy countries, this is simply of outstanding quality.
