Iranian prison chief issues apology after hacked videos show abuse of prisoners
24 Aug, 2021 09:10

Iran’s prison authority boss has issued an apology for “bitter events” that were recorded in Tehran’s Evin jail. Footage obtained by hackers shows a detainee being beaten and dragged around the facility.
In a rare admission of human rights abuses, on Tuesday the head of the Iranian prison authority accepted responsibility for the shocking events recorded by the hacking group, Edalat-e Ali (Ali’s Justice).

“Regarding the pictures from Evin prison, I accept responsibility for such unacceptable behavior and pledge to try to prevent any repeat of these bitter events and to deal seriously with the wrongdoers,” Mohammad Mehdi Hajmohammadi, head of Iran’s prisons, said in a tweet.

Gigabytes of recording stolen. I wonder, there's nobody securing and watching importants internets connections like that in Iran?

And why they use Windows?

No we don't play at all .

Iranian play with fire using western made software.

It's ridiculous this "hack". If they can do that, what more has been hacked and we dont know at all? nuclear plant? missiles factory? IRGC headquarters?

We have no idea if "hacking" took actually place or if it was rather an inside job of sorts.

See, western media and even RT will never give their audience the full picture about Iran.

Here's some elements to ponder:

1) Evin prison has three sections. Some 80% of it is managed by the Iranian Organization of Prisons and houses regular offenders and criminals. The rest is divided up between the Ministry of Intelligence and Sepah (IRGC) Intelligence. There, people are held who acted against national security. The released video files all originate from the first section. Because the two others i.e. the most sensitive ones, are off limits even to the average infiltrator let alone to some hackers.

2) We don't even know if the computers controlling the CCTV cameras are connected to the internet.

3) The name of the purported "hacker group" is unusual in this context ("Ali's Justice"). It doesn't sound like a typical choice you would expect from any of the main opposition groups or currents. Another indication that it could have been an inside job.

Now, what actors within the system may have found an interest in leaking these clips? There are many. From "pragmatic" conservative Ali Larijani (an ally of Rohani), who seemed pretty upset about being barred from the recent presidential race, to the liberals (reformists & centrists / moderates), various parties may want to try and throw a spanner in the works of Ebrahim Raisi's presidency.

On a sidenote, I would simply observe what a non-issue these leaks tend to be, and how they're being blown out of proportion by the US- and zionist-backed Iranian opposition in exile (that clown Masih Alinejad's call on the "international community" to get involved is truly a joke).

For one, out of all these scenes, only two are showing faulty behaviour by prison guards. The rest depict minor fights between inmates as well as two suicide attempts. And frankly, it is relatively tame compared to what is going on in prisons elsewhere - be it in the US, certain European countries or in developing nations. Not to mention that these are the worst they could find from amongst the entire CCTV recordings of Iran's largest prison in a year. By the way, RT seem to be totally off track on this one - they publish a screen shot from one of the videos and present it as "undated" while the date stamp is perfectly visible on the image...

Last but not least, those who watched them like I did, are generally stunned at how clean and orderly the prison facilities are! Really, they are in better shape than much of Iran's real estate. Also, prisoners have access to a wide range of equipment in their cells - flatscreen TV sets, DVD players, fridges, air conditioners etc. Again, compared to other developing nations and even numerous prisons in wealthy countries, this is simply of outstanding quality.

again your chronic obsession with Moderate , reformists and liberal .
I say the one who are against roohani government leaked it, to say how bad his government was.

Holy$hit but never mind. We in Pakistan only going to abuse Arabs, just waiting for a breaking news.

Just pay attention to the kind of discourse opposition sources like Alinejad-Qomi and company add to these images when they spread them. Indeed, it's not Rohani they target, but President Raisi. Furthermore, this propaganda is meant to make people loathe the IR as a whole, and the IR is currently governed by Ebrahim Raisi, so it's him whom these sort of individuals are going to be pointing at - in addition, of course, to the Supreme Leader and the IRGC.

Speaking of which, Alinejad-Qomi's husband is on the record for publicly supporting Rohani's presidential bid. There is a filmed interview where he does so. And let's not forget how Ruhollah Zam expressed his preference for Rohani as well.

I'm not obsessed with anyone, I just feel it's important to inform Iranians about the threats they face. If anything happens to Iran in the coming decades, it will not be primarily due to its existential foreign enemies no matter how powerful, but to domestic liberals facilitating the enemy's work.

How come an apology served justice here?

The man could have resigned.

The man could have resigned.

Seriously? Some observers even wondered why he apologized at all. By this standard, almost every head of prisons on the planet ought to resign.

Is it necessary to post videos from daily abuses occurring in American jails, for instance, which happen to be several fold worse than what was shown here? Thinking of it, that stuff is so over the top it would probably violate forum rules though. Yet I never heard of any large scale, well funded media campaign calling for the resignation of the US official in charge of prisons... Double standards.

Its a rampant disease in America which needs tackling through multiple parallel strategies.

incompetence is fatal in a post revolutionary society.

don't bring fuel to your own fire. optics are critical in fog of war.

Where?

Either way, as I explained time and again, Netanyahu's problem with Rouhani did not stem from the latter's actual politival program and objectives, but from the uncertainty as to whether Rouhani would succeed in fully implementing them.

Worst case scenario for Netanyahu being the remote possibility that Iran - including the IRGC, Iran's defense industries and Iran's regional allies, would reap some benefits from the JCPOA, but that conversely Rouhani would fail in pressuring the Leadership to authorize JCPOAs II and III and thereby complete the disarmament process.

If there was a 100% guarantee that Rouhani and the liberals will succeed in forcing their agenda onto the Leadership and IRGC, Netanyahu would have backed them unreservedly.

Also, Netanyahu's rhetoric and demonization of the liberal administration in Tehran was a way of ensuring that Washington would not abide by its obligations under the JCPOA, so as to pressure Iran into accepting follow up deals on missiles, regional presence and so on, in line with their master plan.

Most prisons in the world are not fit for human beings. Iran is no different.

What is different about Evin prison is that some of those locked there did nothing wrong , other than speaking out against the regime.
