Iranian foreign Minister reached Pakistan to meet Imran Khan

. .
What does he want?

And no, Pakistanis are not going to buy Iranian Rial like they did with the Turkish Lira as a mark of respect for a fellow Muslim nation.

Maybe the Prime Minister can advise the Iranian to behave and stop being so evil in Arabia.

They are neighbors of ours. We face similar security threats from the likes of ISIS which the US has now transported to Afghanistan. Both country's economy's are under intense pressure and biltateral trade increase would relieve the situation slightly. Improved Iran-Pak relations from our pov also reduces India's ability to influence Afghanistan and greater Balochistan region. These are some of the reasons why the Iranian FM is in Pakistan.

As for Iranian-Arab relations, this govt should continue the policy of non-interference just like they do with Pak-Indo relations. The day Iranians or Arab countries commit to the Kashmir cause and tangibly aid their independence struggle they become worthy of our real support. Till then both sides personal disputes are not our concern.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who arrived in Islamabad on Thursday for a two-day visit, held detailed talks with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday, with both sides underlining the need to promote bilateral relations in all areas of cooperation.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Office, Zarif extended "best wishes of the Iranian leadership and the people of Iran on the election victory led by Prime Minister Imran Khan".

Welcoming the dignitary, Qureshi noted the potential for "strengthening the already strong bilateral relationship" between Pakistan and Iran.

Detailed discussions were also held on regional and global issues, including the situation in Afghanistan and the United States' decision to unilaterally withdraw from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) — more commonly referred to as the Iran nuclear deal.

In May, President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the Iran deal, terming it "one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into". The US government had also reinstated all sanctions waived as part of the nuclear accord and imposed additional economic penalties as well.

Britain, France and Germany had urged the Trump administration not to revoke the deal, arguing that the agreement was the best way of stopping Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Pakistan's Foreign Office had also expressed concern on US's withdrawal from the deal, saying that the decision would affect the world community's efforts to solve the "conflict" with Iran.

During the talks on Friday, Qureshi "supported Iran’s principled stance" and expressed the hope that remaining parties to the Iran deal would uphold their commitments. The foreign minister, according to the press release, reiterated that Pakistan stands with Iran "in this hour of need".

Qureshi stressed that Pakistan greatly values Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s "strong and unswerving support for the just struggle of the people of Kashmir".

Zarif, meanwhile, congratulated Qureshi on "Pakistan’s strong protest against the blasphemous caricature competition had led to cancellation of the event".

Iran FM meets COAS
FM Zarif also called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), regional security situation and other matters of mutual interest were discussed.

The army's media wing said the visiting dignitary "acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan’s contributions for conflict prevention in the region".

Iran has been warming up to Pakistan after remaining lukewarm for decades and potentially sees its neighbour as part of the emerging regional bloc that could include Russia and China. Iran this year celebrated Pakistan’s Independence Day in an unprecedented manner, displaying large greeting hoardings along major highways in Iranian cities.

The Iranian FM's trip comes ahead of US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Joseph F. Dunford's visit to Islamabad next week for talks with their counterparts.

They are also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Pakistan PM vows to expand ties with Iran

Islamabad, Aug 31, IRNA -- Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan says he desires to further improve relations with Iran, adding that his government will take all measures to strengthen ties with the Islamic Republic.

He said this during a meeting with Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad-Javad Zarif, who called on him in Islamabad on Friday.

A statement, released by PM house after the meeting, said that Prime Minister Imran Khan received Javad Zarif, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who conveyed to him the greetings and best wishes of the people and leadership of Iran on assuming office.

“Mr. Zarif stated that Iran wished continued progress and prosperity to the people of Pakistan,” it said.

The statement added Foreign Minister Javad Zarif delivered a message of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, inviting the Prime Minister for the upcoming Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Summit in Iran, in October 2018. Both Pakistan and Iran are members of the organization. Iran currently holds the Chair of the organization.

Welcoming the Foreign Minister, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s support for Kashmiri’s struggle for self-determination as well as for the manner in which Pakistan Independence Day was celebrated in Iran,” it added.

The statement said Prime Minister thanked the Foreign Minister for the sincere wishes. Recalling his recent telephonic conversation with President Rouhani, Prime Minister Khan said that Pakistan and Iran were connected by inseparable bonds of historic, religious and cultural affinities.

He added that during his tenure, Pakistan would make all efforts to cement these relations in various areas to the benefit of both countries,” it said.

The statement further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan also emphasized on restoring complete peace and stability in the region.

“As land bridges between economically resource-rich regions, together with other regional partners, Pakistan and Iran remained the key to growth and prosperity in the region through enhancing connectivity and promoting people to people linkages,” he said.

Referring to cancellation of blasphemous Dutch caricatures competition following Government of Pakistan’s strong condemnation and protest recently, the Prime Minister underlined the need for the Muslim countries to confront Islamophobia with one voice.

“The love and respect of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), was part of every Muslim’s faith and no one could be allowed to disrespect it,” he said.

Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif left Pakistan for Tehran on Friday after conclusion of his two-day official visit.

The Iranian Foreign Minister was the first top foreign diplomat to visit Pakistan after the new government came into power earlier this month.

I am very hopeful about the tenure of Imran Khan as Pak PM. He seems like an honest person, a potentially great leader. Hope we can make best ever relations with Pakistan during his term as PM.

Godspeed to him.
