Not true. Militarily, Russia is in no shape to punish Turkey.

-Russia's main strength is ground forces, but it has no land access to Turkey (Russia's military transports are very limited).

- Turkey has one of the most powerful militaries in the world. A strong air force, army and navy.

-Russian forces in Syria are relatively weak, vulnerable to Turkey and rely on supply lines that Turkey can shut down at war time.

- Turkish navy in Black Sea is far stronger and Russia does not posses landing craft to sustain an amphibious operation at great distance.
