Iran is not a terrorist state and Russia will develop ties with the country, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday, responding to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks.

“We do not agree with this approach,” Peskov told a news conference following Trump’s comments during a TV interview on Sunday that Iran was “the No. 1 terrorist state”.

“You all know that Russia has good relations of partnership with Iran and we cooperate with that country on a number of issues,” Peskov added. “We appreciate our relations in the trading and economic sphere and we hope for their further development.”

The spokesman said there were a number of issues where Moscow and Washington were opposed. “However, this cannot be and should not be a stumbling block for building communication and pragmatic mutually beneficial relations between Russia and the U.S.,” he added.

Trump has restated U.S. opposition to Iran since coming to office after Barack Obama oversaw the lifting of sanctions against Tehran, which has been listed as a state sponsor of terrorism by the U.S. since 1984.

Relations between Russia and America have also warmed, with Trump praising President Vladimir Putin in the run-up to his inauguration last month.

The Kremlin said on Monday it did not agree with US President Donald Trump's assessment of Iran as "the number one terrorist state" and wanted to deepen what it described as already good ties with Tehran.

The Kremlin was responding to comments Trump made to Fox News in an interview aired at the weekend in which he complained that Iran had "total disregard" for the United States.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in a conference call with reporters that Moscow saw things differently.

"Russia has friendly partner-like relations with Iran, we cooperate on a wide range of issues, value our trade ties, and hope to develop them further," said Peskov.

Trump and Putin say they want to try to rebuild US-Russia ties, that were badly damaged by Moscow's 2014 annexation of Crimea and by Western sanctions imposed on Russia in response.

Peskov said there was no reason for policy differences over Iran to hinder such a rapprochement.

"It's no secret for anyone that Moscow and Washington hold diametrically opposed views on many international issues," said Peskov. "That should not be an obstacle when it comes to forging normal communication and pragmatic mutually-beneficial relations between Russia and the United States."

Separately, Russia criticized the Trump administration's move on Friday to impose sanctions on Iran after a recent ballistic missile test, saying the test did not violate existing agreements.

"We are sorry that things are working out in this way," Sergei Ryabkov, Russia's deputy foreign minister, was quoted as saying of the new sanctions by the RIA news agency on Monday.

Russia looking for some more arms sales tho.

Both countries enjoys good relations and Trump call should have been substantiated with a lot of work and evidences as well as the details to justify the charges except a blunt call like this that too directly against states including Iran in the list. By the same definition, whosoever caught any American involved in any illegal activity, US be charged with same terrorist label. However, citizen could be related in such charges but same does not represent whole nation and this ban is already suspended by one of US Courts. Let's see how things unfolds in recent times. On other hand, Trump speaking to journalist during an interview, said it boldly......
