Iran in Talks to Buy 45 Airbus Choppers

T he Iranian government is in talks with the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to purchase 45 helicopters, a deputy roads and urban development minister said.

“The Health Ministry is planning to order 45 HEMS [Helicopter Emergency Medical Service] helicopters and the purchase is being negotiated by the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development,” Asghar Fakhrieh-Kashan also told Mehr News Agency.

The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development has previously helped flag carrier Iran Air secure 100 passenger planes from the European aircraft giant.

Fakhrieh-Kashan noted that Iran is holding negotiations to merge the helicopter order into the Iran Air-Airbus contract signed in December.

“Ports and Maritime Organization is also planning to hold a tender to purchase three search-and-rescue helicopters,” he added.



Iran to Build Civil Helicopters in Joint Venture With Russia

Iran’s Development and Renovation Organization (IDRO) and Russian Helicopters Company plan to team up to assemble light Russian helicopters in the Islamic Republic, IDRO’s deputy director Abolfazl Kiani Bakhtiari announced.

Mr. Bakhtiari said that apart from the Russian Ka-226 and Ansat light multirole helicopters the Iranians would also assemble their own Saba-248 cargo and passenger rotorcraft. The Saba can also be used in search-and-rescue missions, exploratory mapping, and also as a “flying taxi.”


In an interview with [URL='https://ir.sputniknews.com/']Sputnik Persian, military expert Mikhail Khodaryonok said that such cooperation would benefit both sides, especially Russia’s helicopter industry, which has recently suffered a drop in orders.


“Russia’s helicopter-making industry will certainly stand to gain from this, especially when it comes to heavy-lift helicopters. This is a window of opportunity that will help Russian Helicopters to improve its financial situation. This would also be beneficial to our industry as a whole, above all the fledgling production of the Ansat helicopters,” Khodaryonok added.

We have had decades to produce a power plant for helis and nothing has come of it.

At the end, we are buying from Air Bus and assembling Russians units.

bro we can build helicopters but even china import so much technologies before making home made helicopters
look at mapna company .... they import gas turbiness from German companies and then with reverse engineering they make better gas turbines ... we should wait bro

Your biggest challenge will be in developing the engines even if you are able to make a civil helicopter. This is where even we in India had a challenge. So now we have a license-agreement for engine making with the French.

Iran is a vast country they will need a lot of helicopter and joint venture is the best option

its not easy to build its hard to build a helicopter and plane . India has everything but still has hard time to build
and Iran is under sanction

My point was, why make all these grand announcements about mass producing SABA and then turn around and bring in russian Helios .


South Korea started Hyundai in th late 80S . It was a disaster; they were complete POS of a car . They turned to Mitsubishi for a decade and now they build their own engines on various levels . I can tell from
experience they are junk at 100k compared to Honda, Toyota, VW ( engine gets sludge.
bearings go out ) but they went from below 0 to a competitor at world stage.

Iran should stick with one platform and start to produce it. I wish we would have a basic utility Helo and expand from there instead of importing from Airbus.
