TEHRAN: An Iranian-Dutch woman, arrested after taking part in anti-government protests in Iran in 2009, has been hanged for drug smuggling, the semi-official Mehr news agency said on Saturday.

"A woman smuggler named Zahra Bahrami, daughter of Ali, has been hanged today for the possession and selling of narcotics," Mehr reported, quoting the court.

The 45-year-old woman's daughter was quoted by the rights group International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran as saying the drug charges were fabricated after Bahrami was arrested for taking part in protests in December 2009.

Mehr reported that she had been found guilty of smuggling cocaine into Iran from the Netherlands and was found with 450 grams of the drug in her possession. Iran does not recognise dual citizenship.

She was arrested for taking part in 2009 anti govt.protests and hanged for possession of drug.clearly these charges are fabricated as human rights groups say.even a blind person can see the loopholes in this case.

you are such a joke with your comments.
they apply a policy of terror. they execute people to make other scared to be in the streets.
when our people live a hell in our country, there are always stupid people worldwide who can say it is cia, sionist, western plot.

get a life!

seriously man wtf ... this is harsh punishment even if she was carrying that little amount of drugs ... Plain wrong of mullahs its bad publicity for Iran
It is rather unfortunate but Iran's ruling regime has an uncanny ability to shoot itself repeatedly on foot. She could have been given a large fine and prison term. But outright hanging just for the sake of some allegations (possibly to scare anyone who wants to protest) is terribly wrong.

Agree. If they want to punish her they can but this is out of law

If the so called human right ORG ar talking about this because they ar against iran Gov, and the women have a dutch passport.

now u can see what is happening in Egypt, as this Gov is an ally to US & Israel & the Western world, they ar not doing any thing about it,even denying to say that the Egyptian President is a dictator, because he is fulfilling there interest , same goes to other Arab & 3rd world countries.

we understant what is the game they play.

if they don't like some one ...,

the best way to give a list of human vilation list every year ,say there ar spporting terrorest organition's,

Egyptians should learn from mistakes Iranians made, and not lean on brotherhood for support. The fight should be for just cause(as it is now) and once they are free, should be a proud sovereign democratic country and not a mullacracy.

Einstein, only a dictatorship can ensure your freedom in this day and age (unless you're a country that America doesn't give a about). Countries like Iran and Egypt are vital for US interests in the ME. A "democracy" will last for a couple of hours before the Americans take care of it (Iran in 1954). A democracy without a strong military and an industrialized economy is USELESS because within a few short days America will move in and set camp.

In Iran the only problem is the social issues. Other than that these mullahs are actually quite awesome. Iran hasn't been this strong in the last 200 years. During the time of the shah we lost Bahrain for example. With all his supposed might, the shah of Iran couldn't hold on to a miserable Island!! The mullahs will be forced to bring reforms in the next couple of decades. To outsiders this makes no sense because you have no idea how many reforms these mullahs have already implemented since they came to power and how much they have changed since the early days.

Egypt and Tunisia will benefit HUGELY, even if the Islamists come to power. At the very least, they will be in control of their own destiny. Right now all these arab countries are nothing but slaves with no future.
