It wouldnot be too difficult to work out what $530mi is worth today if you knew the FX rate for GBP/Rial was 42 years ago.

1 USD was worth 0.4478 GBP in 1980(https://www.poundsterlinglive.com/b...rical-spot-exchange-rates/usd/USD-to-GBP-1980) - that makes $530million worth 237million pounds.

237million pounds inflation adjusted over 42 years is £1,081,374,288.96... or $1,418,076,394 in todays money in dollars ...

So Iran may get the nominal value of #530million back - but about 1/3rd less of the actual value ..

Yes that is why I am wondering how are they going to get that remaing almost one billion dollars back..no leverage left...A British court ordered the UK government to pay the original sum + interest...may be part of the JCPOA agreements... I hope..and I am happy that this woman is back to her child and learned a good lesson in life..never betray your mother land .

She wasn't so important on her own, the network of spies that she was ordered to build inside Iran was more dangerous. The network was completely annihiliated including Iran project network.

We paid 400 million to release her. Now ask yourself why the Uk government would pay that when they don't normally pay for hostages. What was she really doing out there?

They weren’t spies, this is called hostage diplomacy. Should be unconscionable for any self respecting nation.

Does anyone seriously think the UK paid all that money for 1 woman's life?

Look at the timing, war in Russia, sanctions against Russia, no access to Russian oil and growing UK fuel costs. It doesn't take a genius to understand that Iran and UK have cut a trade deal.
