A university lecturer and nuclear scientist has been killed in a car explosion in north Tehran, reports say.

Iranian media sources named the casualty as Mostafa Ahmadi-Roshan, an academic who also worked at the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.

The blast happened when a motorcyclist stuck a magnetic bomb on the car, said Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.

Several Iranian nuclear scientists have been assassinated in recent years, with Iran blaming Israel and the US.

Local sources said Wednesday's blast took place at a faculty of Iran's Allameh Tabatai university.

Mr Ahmadi-Roshan, 32, was a graduate of oil industry university and supervised a department at Natanz uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan province, Fars reported.

"The bomb was a magnetic one and the same as the ones previously used for the assassination of the scientists, and the work of the Zionists [Israelis]," deputy Tehran governor Safarali Baratloo said.

Witnesses said they had seen two people on the motorbike fix the bomb to the car. Another person in the car was reported to have been seriously injured.

The latest attack comes almost two years to the day since Massoud Ali Mohammadi, a 50-year-old university lecturer at Tehran University, was killed by a remote-controlled bomb as he left his home in Tehran on 12 January 2010.

Reports at the time described Dr Mohammadi as a nuclear physicist, but it later appeared that he was an expert in another branch of physics.

There was also confusion as to whether the attack had any domestic political overtones because of reports about his apparent links to an opposition presidential candidate.

However, in August 2011, an Iranian man - Majid Jamali Fashi - was sentenced to death for the killing, with state authorities saying he was paid by Israel's Mossad spy agency. Israel does not comment on such claims.

Of the latest attack, Fars reports that the bombing method appears similar to another 2010 bombing which injured former university professor Fereydun Abbasi-Davani, now the head of the country's atomic energy organisation.

There has been much controversy over Iran's nuclear activities.

Tehran says its nuclear programme is for peaceful energy purposes, but the US and other Western nations suspect it of seeking to build nuclear weapons.

Yet another disgraceful attack by the Zionists - how the world seems to brush these disgraceful attacks under the table? Iran will get stronger and more scientists will merge after this. Do they think by blowing up scientists they will quash the Iranian dream???

It's attacks like this which make me think Iran is all talk and no action. Everyone knows Israel is behind these attacks, yet Iran has not retaliated in kind.

Do you think it would be wise for Iran to attack or move this act onto another level? Isnt it better for the moment to tighten security and achieve the objectives in mind? Perhaps acts like this are carried out to instigate Iran to make the first move so it gives them an excuse to bomb the crap out of Iran?
I think this should simply be a catalyst for Iran to speed up and work hard to achieve objectives that they want to hinder - best way of retaliation?

Why not?

According to some 'analysts' in this forum, Iran will destroy USN (United States Navy) and reduce Israel to dust with its missile arsenal and speedboats. In addition, Iranian members claim that Iran can close the Hormuz region for unlimited period of time.

So what is stopping Iran? It is the strongest nation in the world (on paper) and can SAVE the world. Now is the right time to eliminate USA and Israel.

Look at the two sides. Iran gets its proxies to fire ancient rockets randomly into civilian areas where they may kill unrelated individuals but have no real impact on Israel's military capability. Israel gets its agents to do precise hits to execute key individuals and destroy missile sites which will have a serious impact on Iran's military programs.

It's the difference between fighting smart and just swinging blindly.

I think to fight at the moment is futile - to catch the culprits at is the key - then you would have the choice to show the world what the zionists are up to. Looking at the bigger picture should be the aim in my opinion. Obviously its getting to them as they are showing more signs of desperation.
Iran must not allow the main focus and goal to be hindered. To achieve their goal would be a bullet in the heart of the Israelis. Would send shivers down their spine.

How can you say that.those rocket go to Israel because Israel also kills Palestinians. And killing scientists is not called fighting. It's just the thing that cowards do.

israel is smart whatever its doing maybe cowardly but its smart he is not targeting your army but your scientist which are very important for your nuclear program and your missile research... their plan is to stop and cripple your nuclear research till either its finished and iran surrenders or they get nato or us to attack you while they sit back and watch the show

One simple fact iranian corrupted terrorist regime and its followers don't want to admit it, these attacks are not coming from zionists or israelis or the US blah blah
it is iranian them selves are bombing and killing each other for political controversies and ethnic/sectarian problems.

don't bother writing me a reply, thats my last in this topic

Get a life. we stand for something unlike you saudis who sold not only yourself, your country, your women but also the holy sites to the Americans.
