INS Vishal might be nuclear-powered aircraft carrier : Naval Design Bureau

Would have liked F-22 flying from Vishal .. Second option was Sea Gripen.. Both not available so chose the third best.. :D

At least you mentioned 1 good fighter, but I'm not going to say which one. :D

I have always been in favor of Good Fighters only.. Have always opposed technologically inferior ones. :D

:enjoy: And you were constant about that, which is admirable.

I think the DRDO Aura is just a speculation, nothing is known about it and it is unlikely that it would be built by this decade.
AURA project is not a speculation and it will accelerate after the induction of Rustom 2 since many techonologies that will be in use in AURA are being devloped for Rustom 2.

I dont know, but lets compare power of submarines in MW/Tonnage (Displacement)

1) Akula-2- 0.014 MW/ton

2)Los Angles- 0.023 MW/ton

3) Rubis Class- 0.018 MW/ ton

4) Triomphant-class submarine-0.010 MW/ton

6) Ohio-Class--0.011 MW/ton

7) Borei-class- 0.008 MW/ton

8) Arihant Class- 0.012 MW/ton ( Displacement as 7000 tonne)

If you compare Arihant with Attack submarine, then definitely it is a looser. But in SSBN, it is winner by some margin. But the question is --the Arihant is true submarine? Or it is a quasi-SSBN, which is designed to work as SSN even.

But if it going to work as SSN in IOK, then its a sitting duck, it never going to attain more than 26 knots.

A sub doing 26kt underwater is blind, there will be no sonar performance. So, the speed is relevant only for transit.

Bro, during hostilities, when the odds doesnt in favor in yours, speed matters. Thats what the SSN are designed for. Flank it, strike it, and run away.

Dude,

Akula does not have vertical launchers. It is a pure SSN and is meant for that purpose irrespective of what government says.

And it would be a stupidity to not use Akula as SSN since it is even superior to Arihant Acoustically. Also Arihant has very low SSN potential as it does not have good Armamant since most of space has been taken up by missile tubes.

We need not send our SSBN to patrol SCS. If we have Submarine launched missile of 5500 Km, we could target China from Indian ocean where PLAN could not hunt Indian SSBN.

Ok,firstly we need some maps to compare our SSBN, and its capability.

B-05 ( Range- 700 Km) Scenario- Target- Beijing and Shanghai

See, for targeting Beijing and Shanghai, our sub first require to cross whole SCS, and if they survive that then we have to come closer to NK and SK water, very hostile. Targeting Beijing with SSBN will be impossible. But there are some chances in Shanghai, if we able to cross SCS, and able to enter in Japnese water, then it possible to target Shanghai.
B-05 ( Range-700 Km) Scenario- Target- Karachi and Islamabad.

There is highly likely that we can target Karachi, from Bombay High or in Arabian Sea, which is our own backyard. The Karachi will go first with the B-05, but targeting Islamabad, The INS Arihant have to sail in land.:P

Yup, the real game changer would be K-4. It bring the Shanghai, Beijing and all major chinese city in our second strike capability.

The INS Arihant would be just require to travel around 1200 KM in Bay of Bengal, and then they are capable to fire missile on Chinese nervous system.

But, B-05 actually is of no use, other than targeting Karachi or maybe Gwadar.

If we are going in for catapults and carrier is nuke operated then what kind of arial vehicles can we see on INS Vishal if its around 70,000 ton full load displacement. I say we should have 30 multirole fighters optimized for strike role. Then we should have 10 stealth fighters optimized for CAP flights. Add 10 helicopters for multirole optimized for anti sub-surface and rescue role. 8 mix of E2D and transport planes. So in total we get around 55 to 60 planes. Is it feasible numerically and economically? While making strike groups we should have two capital ships in one strike group. 1 carrier two stealth destroyers, 3 stealth frigates(one in always forward patrol), 2 corvettes for anti submarine warfare, 1 large supply ship, 2 SSN(one always with fleet and other in forward patrol). If we are putting three such groups in waters at war time it will give us much needed boost. Can anyone give a timeline as per our navy plans when will we have similer capabilities?

"With progress finally being made in fulfilling India's long-standing aim to have a credible `nuclear triad', or the ability to fire nukes from land, air and sea, the Navy now wants a well-balanced underwater strategic arm. This will include three SSBNs (nuclear-powered submarines with long-range strategic missiles) and six SSNs (nuclear-powered attack submarines) in the long-term.
But much before all this, Navy will begin operating a nuclear submarine by early next year. That is when, after several glitches, India will finally get the 12,000-tonne `K-152 Nerpa' Akula-II class submarine from Russia on a 10-year lease.

Nerpa, of course, will not come armed with long-range missiles due to international treaties like the Missile Technology Control Regime. But apart from being a potent hunter of enemy submarines, Nerpa will also help train Indian sailors in the complex art of operating, maintaining and deploying nuclear submarines like INS Arihant and its already-approved two follow-on vessels.
...
The over 6,000-tonne INS Arihant will be more of `a technology demonstrator', rather than a fully-operational SSBN, for the subsequent follow-on nuclear submarines to follow. " according to Admiral Nirmal Verma.

What about K-5?
