Japan Lost Indonesian High-speed Railway Contract to China

Japan has lost a key Indonesian high-speed railway contract to China, dealing a heavy blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who is seeking to take advantage of infrastructure exports for economic growth.

Sofyan Djalil, head of the Indonesian National Development Planning Agency, told Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga on Tuesday that Indonesia planned to accept the Chinese proposal. Suga later commented on this matter, describing it as “difficult to understand” and “extremely regrettable”.

Indonesia has been planning bullet train line with only China and Japan entered the bid. In the beginning of September this year, Indonesia turned down both proposals from China and Japan, saying it would build a medium-speed railway instead. The railway is to link Jakarta with the West Java provincial capital of Bandung.

China later came back with a new proposal, offering to build the high-speed railway without Indonesian fiscal spending or debt guarantee. Teten Masduki, the Indonesian president’s chief of staff, told reporters in Jakarta that Japan lost because its proposal was more about government-to-government cooperation, while Jakarta preferred business-to-business cooperation, reported the Japan Times.

The railway project is estimated to cost nearly $5.3 billion.

I remember I have seen a japanese magazine that say Chinese nuclear power stations are dangerous bombs because China build them on seismic zones.That was months before the melt down of japanese nuclear plants.It is quite ironic and funny because they forgot that the whole Japan is on seismic zone.Most of japanese hate or don't like chinese,so it's normal that they say many negative things about China.

Japenese were known to give compliments, yet a complete sour grape all in all. about time people get educated about japenese true nature, as many people only knows japenese by anime.

i know right. they are the ones who talks bad about SK when their POSCO factory are having some fire problems (but zero casualties) in Indonesia. these people regardless of their affliations (right or left wingers) are all the same.

Humble ourself. It's completely fair for them to be upset. The important thing is that we still able to keep and maintain warm relation with each other. They are one of our main trading partner and investor. One small defeat for japan won't change anything about Indonesia-Japan relation.

problem is, it's not completely fair for them to keep being a sour Japanese as their medias are giving negative views on Indonesia. like i said some post before, look it up on youtube.

actually it did "change" the relationship though not massive at all. the problem of partnering with nip is that they dislike to be not choosen when you don't choose them. if you are partnering with nips then you are to surrender your infrastructure plans to them. kind of colonialish mentality, except they are a failed colonial.
