What's new

Indigenous pashtun tribes of Pakistan

Kind of compared to Ghilzai like you for exemple.

your premise is based on who is indigenous.to Pakistan and who is not. That is in the title.

your assumption was indigenous means thousands of years

I say this is BS.

I would rather say, who are the first people to settle in the land of Pakistan.

What about Swat people? Are they pashtuns or just speak pashto?
They are Pashtuns not Karlnaris ... Karlnaris have different ancestory than Pashtuns but have assimilated into the Pashtun culture.. Read the book "the Pathans".

Karlnaris have different origins than Pashtuns ... They are usually called "Pathans" rather than Pakhtuns or Pashtuns...

They could be related to pashai people of Eastern afghanistan many of whom consider themselves pashtuns despite speaking a dardic language. Pashais of eastern afghanistan usually call themselves pashtuns with a "special" language, their assimilation in pashtun identity is still not complete but still in the process . I noticed similarity between karlani pashtuns and pashai in hats and use of flowers around their ears.

Well now i have edited my post to include 1000 years part, because people like you get offended on being indigenous for thousands of years. As i told you 99% south punjabis are not indigenous anyway, they moved here in last 100 years, Happy now?

This post of yours contradicts the entire purpose of this thread, that you claim

That is true not just for Swat but for most other areas of kpk too, some trolls on internet try to single out only swat which I never understood why? Don't you remember that Marwat khan lodhi told us that even in his own area Laikki marwat such a divide between land owning marwats and their subjects exists, so it seems a general phenomenon in kpk settled areas that many people have assimilated in pashtun identity in those settled areas.

thee are four types of people related to issue.
1. Pushtoons who dont speak pushto like tahir khaili.
2. pushtoons who speak pushtoo and know their tribe.
3. pushtoons who speak pushto but forgot their tribe(a few may belong to group 4).
4. non pushtoons like gujar of swat who speak pushtoo but know that they are not pushtoons.

lastly the tribes have became mixed up so much recently and so many new disputes came up among historians that it is difficult to estimate the no. and origin of each tribe.

P.S
i belong to Mashwanis tribe, this is surprisingly a very indigenous tribe to pakistan.

Niazi tribes in bannu, mianwali and few scattered all over Pakistan.

However few Niazi tribes in Pakistan speak pushto and rest strong dialect of saraiki and all follow pushtonwali.

So Mashwanis tribe. That make it 4.

I read many articles that Swatis are not pashtuns but speak pashto.

There is two different kind of Swatis the one who were defeated by the Yousafzais and moved to Hazar where they established themselves.
The other is the current residents of Swat.
What people do you want to categorise as non-Pashtuns now.

But there is a more fundamental problem with this thread.
Pakistan came to being in 1947 before that there was no Pakistan and thus there can be no talk of Pakistanis before 1947.

If you want to talk about 1000 years you need to talk about British India and the Moghul Hindustan, maybe you can include the Prithvi Raj and Afghan conquest if you want a more fuller picture about the history of the areas that we today call Pakistan

People say land holding class in Swat are pashtuns and others who are called swatis are non-pashtuns.
